Crochet Graduation Cap

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Graduation cap
  • Yellow Big Twist yarn
  • Orange Big Twist yarn
  • Rose Big Twist yarn
  • Violet Big Twist yarn
  • Hot glue gun

DIRECTIONS:

Special stitch - Bobble Stitch: Yo, insert hook in next st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo insert hook into same st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo insert hook into same st once more, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, pull through all 4 loops on hook

FLOWER PATTERN:
With Yellow
Ch 8, sl st into first ch to form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 4, dc 19 into ring, sl st into top of ch 4. Tie off Yellow.
With Orange (do not turn)
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 sc in each st around, sl st into top of ch 2. Turn.
Row 3: (ws) ch 2, bobble in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, bobble, repeat from * to last st, Sc in last st of row, sl st into top of ch 2. Do not turn.
Row 4: (ws) sl st to top of first bobble, *ch 3, sl st into top of next bobble, repeat from * to last bobble, ch 3, sl st into top of first bobble. Tie off Orange.
Working from rs, attach Rose yarn into first ch 3 space.
Row 5: Ch 3, (dc 5, sc 1) all into ch 3 space, *(sc, dc 5, sc) all into next ch 3 space, repeat from * in each ch 3 space, Sc in first ch 3 space and sl st to top of ch 3. Tie off Rose.
Row 6: (ws) Tie on Rose yarn again around base of first petal of previous row. *Ch 6, sc around base between next petals, repeat from * to last petal, ch 6, sl st to first st. Tie off Rose. Turn.
Row 7: (rs) Tie on Violet yarn into first ch 6 space, (dc 7, sc) all into ch 6 space, *(sc, dc 8, sc) all in next ch 6 space, repeat from * in each ch6 space, Sc in first ch 6 space and sl st to top of ch 3. Tie off.
Weave in ends.
Hot glue the middle of the flower around the top button on the graduation cap.

BORDER PATTERN:
With Rose yarn.
Ch 96
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end of row. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, bobble st, *sc in next 2 sts, bobble st, repeat from * to last st, sc in last st. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row. Tie off yarn leaving a 5" tail.
Sew the two short sides together.
Fit the border around the edge of the cap and hot glue it in place.
