SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Plastic Bags
  • Big Twist Natural Blend Yarn, Mustard
  • Big Twist Natural Blend Yarn, Sage
  • Size U.S. L/11 (7.5mm) Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

DIRECTIONS:

To create the plastic yarn, stack the plastic bags in a pile, neatly one on top of the other. Cut the off the bottom edge of the bags, and the top edge with the handles. Cut the remaining portion of the bags into 2" thick strips, creating long loops. To connect the loops, hold one end of the first loop in one hand and one end of the second loop in the other hand. Place the end of the second loop into the end of the first loop. Bring the opposite end of the second loop up and pull it through the other end. Pull tightly. This will connect the loops with a lark's head knot. Continue adding loops with the lark's head knot to create the length of plastic yarn.
With the plastic yarn.
Create a magic loop, ch 1, sc 6 times into the loop. Pull tail to cinch tight.
*work continuously, placing a st marker in the first st of the row to keep track of beginning of round.
Round 1: 2 sc into each st around. (12 sc)
Round 2: *sc, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (18 sc)
Round 3: *sc in 2 sts, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (24 sc)
Round 4: *sc in 3 sts, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (30 sc)
Round 5: *sc in 4 sts, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (36 sc)
Round 6: *sc in 5 sts, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (42 sc)
Round 7: *sc in 6 sts, 2 sc into next st, repeat from* to end of round. (48 sc)
Round 8: sc in each st around.
Round 9: sc in the back loops of each st around.
Rounds 10-26: Repeat round 8.
Tie off plastic yarn.
Switch to Mustard yarn.
Rounds 27-28: Repeat round 8.
Tie off Mustard yarn.
Switch to Sage yarn.
Round 29-30: Repeat round 8.
Tie off. Weave in ends.
