SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- McCall's #8049
- Fabric (Yardage based on size)
- Batting Fabric (Yardage based on size)
- Grid Ruler for Measuring
- Disappearing Ink/ Water Soluble Marking Pen
- Thread to Match
- Tape Measure or Clear Ruler
- Pins
- Scissors
DIRECTIONS:
- Using pattern pieces for view C, determine desired length (2" below waist for sample pictured) and make pattern adjustments based on that length.
- Cut out all pattern pieces.
- Taper sleeves to eliminate some of the fullness at hem if desired.
- Cut out all pieces in same fabric for both jacket and lining.
- Cut out same pieces out of batting.
- Place exterior pieces of fabric on to batting, pin both layers together and stitch along perimeter to attach to batting at 1/2" seam allowance, essentially making it one pattern piece for each; 2 fronts, 1 back. 2 sleeves.
- On sleeves only, add lining to back of sleeve (batting sandwiched between two fabric layers) and then stitch along perimeter of each sleeve with right sides of fabric facing out on both sides.
- Stitch at side seams connecting fronts to back (do not stitch shoulder seam yet).
- Stitch fronts to back in batted pieces and repeat in lining pieces.
- Plan out and mark grid along fronts, backs and sleeves (3" grid was used here) using water soluble marking pen.
- Once grid markings are complete, sew shoulder seems on padded pieces and repeat on lining pieces.
- With right sides together, pin lining to jacket, matching notches, centers, and side seams. Stitch at 5/8" seam allowance along entire perimeter. Do not stitch sleeve openings.
- Understitch lining as far as possible.
- Turn lining to inside, by pulling through one of the armholes. Press, baste armhole edges together. Baste along perimeter to make sure all edges are flat prior to top stitching.
- Pin grid lines through to lining, making sure all layers are smooth.
- Topstitch all grid lines, on body and then on sleeves.
- Sew underarm seams of sleeves.
- Attach sleeves to body, matching notches and circles and stitch sleeves onto body. Finish seam with serger or another clean finish.
- Hem sleeves by turning up 1" and slip stitch.
JOANN HACKS:
- Pad and stitch grid pattern on sleeves prior to sewing so grid pattern can be stitched while sleeve is flat.
- Stitch all grid lines going in one direction first, and then the other direction.
- Add contrast color or print lining for bold statement.
- Cut out and prep all pieces prior to sewing.

Would Love to Make But I Can't
The website is broken. "download a pattern" is not possible. I have tried with multiple extensions, computers, and browsers. Very frustrating.
