DIRECTIONS:

To print the diagram, click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

NOTE:
WOF = width of fabric

Read all instructions before cutting and sewing.
Press all fabric.
Use 1/4" seams throughout.

  1. From fabric A: Cut 19 - 2 1/2"x WOF strips.
  2. From B: Cut 19 - 2 1/2"x WOF strips.
  3. From C: Cut 19 - 2 1/2"x WOF strips.
  4. From D: Cut 38 - 1 3/4"x WOF strips.
  5. From E: Cut 76 - 1 3/4"x WOF strips.
  6. Set aside remainder of cream fabric for later use.
  7. Sew strips together in strip sets in the order shown in Diagram 1.
  8. C - E - D - E - A - E - D - E - B
  9. Sew 19 sets.
  10. Press seams open with a hot iron - no steam.

  11. As shown in Diagram 2, center the top and bottom points of ruler on middle strip A and trim all around the ruler.
  12. The ruler will not reach all the way to the side edges.
  13. Cut 3 blocks from each strip set.
  14. Blocks will be 9 1/2" square and measure about 13 1/2" diagonally.
  15. From fabric E cut 26 strips measuring 1"x WOF.
  16. From these strips, sub cut 97 pieces 1"x 9 1/2".
  17. From extra strip and pieces cut 42 - 1" squares.
  18. Using the layout diagram, put blocks in order as shown.
  19. Sew top 7 blocks together with a 9 1/2" strip between each block.
  20. Continue with each set of 7 until you have 8 rows completed.
  21. Press the seams inward towards sashing.
  22. Take 7 - 9 1/2" pieces, and use 6 of the 1" squares to connect the pieces into long strips.
  23. Refer to the layout.
  24. Make 7 long strips.
  25. Press the seams out so they will nest with the rows.
  26. Sew a strip between each row as shown in the layout.
  27. The small squares will help to keep the bias edges from stretching, acting as a guide.
  28. From remainder of cream fabric E, cut 8 strips 1 1/2"x WOF.
  29. Join them together.
  30. Cut 2 strips 75 1/2" in length but MEASURE the sides first since fabric is flexible and small adjustments may be needed.
  31. Take care not to stretch the bias sides.
  32. Sew a strip to each side.
  33. Press without steam.
  34. Cut 2 - 68 1/2" strips.
  35. Again, MEASURE the top and bottom for adjustment and take care not to stretch bias edges.
  36. Sew strips to top and bottom.
  37. Press without steam.
  38. Layer backing, batting and top.
  39. Pin or baste securely and quilt as desired.
  40. Trim.
  41. Cut 8 binding strips 2 1/2"x WOF.
  42. Join strips and press in half lengthwise.
  43. Pin to edge of quilt and sew in place.
  44. Quilt finishes at approximately 67 1/2"x 77".
