SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Fur fabric
  • Fleece backing for blanket
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Ruler or tape measure
  • Sewing machine
  • Serger (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

    BLANKET

  1. Lay out and measure both backing fabric and fur fabric to desired blanket size plus 1/2" seam allowance all around. For example, cut your fabric into a 46" x 51" rectangle for a 45" x 50" finished blanket.
  2. Align your fabrics right side to right side and sew around all four edges leaving a 6" opening for turning.
  3. Turn blanket right side out and top stitch the edges if you like. Make sure to close the little opening you left for turning the blanket. Top stitching is entirely optional. If you don’t top stitch, hand sew your 6" opening shut.

    PILLOW

  1. To make two pillows, Cut two 17" x 38" rectangles from your fur fabric.
  2. Hem or serge the two 17" long ends of your fabric. This will be the finished edges of the cover where they overlap.
  3. Fold the pillow cover so that the back edges overlap and the finished pillow measures 16" square. Pin or clip all around. (You might want to mark your sewing line with chalk to make sewing easier.)
  4. Sew carefully through all the layers on top and bottom of pillow. Turn right side out through the envelope opening you created and pop your pillow form in.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Make sure you catch the woven backing part of the fur fabric and not just the furry edge when sewing your seams.
