SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • O'Go Red Heart Super Saver Skein, Forest (2)
  • O'Go Red Heart Super Saver Skein, White (1)
  • US 9(I) Crochet Hook
  • US 8(H) Crochet Hook

DIRECTIONS:

STITCH REFERENCES:
Beginning cluster (BC):
Ch 3, (yo, plane hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops) twice, yo, pull through all loops.
Cluster (CL):
(yo, plane hook into the same stitch, yo, pull through 1 loop, yo, pull through 2 loops) three times, yo, pull through all loops.
Crab stitch:
Ch 1, Chain 1. Without turning your work, move backwards to insert the hook from front to back in the first single crochet stitch. This will feel unnatural doing so. Yo, draw through one loop. Yo, draw through both loops on the hook. Crab stitch is essentially working a row of single crochet in the other direction.

FLOWER SQUARE:
Start with the US 9(I) hook.
You will make four squares with the lightest green color from the Forest skein, four with the darker green Forest kein, and ten white squares from the White skein. Do NOT cut yarn between rounds on the white squares. You can also make these last once you've gotten the hang of making the motif in multiple colors.
Round 1: Ch 6, join with a slip stitch in the first ch to form a ring. Ch 1, sc 15 into loop and join with a slip stitch in first sc. Break yarn.
Round 2: With white yarn, join yarn to any sc. BC, (Ch 2, skip 1 sc, CL in next sc) seven times, ch 2 and join with a slip stitch in the top of BC. Break yarn. This makes 8 petals.
Round 3: With lightest green yarn, slip stitch into any ch 2 space, sc 1, (Ch 4, sc 1 in next ch 2 space) three times, ch 2, sc in next ch 2 space. Ch 4, sc in next ch 2 space, ch 2 and join with slip stitch in the first sc.
Round 4: Join yarn with a slip stitch in next 4 ch space. Ch 2, dc 3, ch 2, dc 3 into same ch 4 space (Dc 3 into ch 2 space, dc 3, ch 2, dc 3 into ch 4 space) three times. Dc 3 into next ch 2 space and join with a slip stitch into the first dc.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc into same stitch. Sc into each dc of previous round, working (2 sc, ch 2, 2sc) into each corner space. Join with a slip stitch in first sc.
For size small, break yarn and fasten off. For size medium, repeat round 5 twice more. For size large, repeat round 5 three more times.

HALF GRANNY SQUARES (FOR NECK AND SHOULDERS):
You will make 4 of these in white for the front.
Row 1: With white yarn, Ch 3, join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Ch 3, dc 2 into ring, ch 2, dc 3 into ring.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn work. (dc 3, ch 2, dc) into ch 2 space of row 1. ch 3, join with a slip stitch in the top of the first foundation ch on row 1.
Row 3: Turn work. Ch 1, sc 4 into next ch 3 space, 1 sc in each dc of previous row, (2 sc, ch 1, sc) in corner space, 1 sc in each dc of previous round, sc 4. For size small, fasten off.
For medium and large sizes:
Row 4: Turn work. Ch 1, sc 1 in each sc of the row below, working (2sc, ch 1) into the corner space. For a medium, repeat row 4 once more. For large, repeat twice more.
Carefully sew squares together, in two 3 x 3 panels, with white squares in the corner and in the middle.
Working on the front of the vest, sew one of the half granny squares to each neck, sc edge to sc, following the diagram displaying the squares. Repeat for the back. (SEE DIAGRAM 1)

With white yarn, Sc 2 rows across both A and B edges of both the front and back. For Medium, sc 2 additional rows. For large, sc 4 additional rows. Sew the front to the back from the bottom edge to about halfway up the square panels.
Sew tops of the shoulder triangles together at top edges for .5 inches.

NECK EDGE
Switch to the US 8(H) hook
Round 1: With white yarn, right side facing, beginning at left side of the neck, where triangles meet, join yarn, ch 1, sc around the neckline, working 2 sc2togs where triangles meet the flower squares and where the triangles meet at shoulders. This will help stabilize the neck. Join with a slip stitch in the first sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, Sc one round, working 1 sc2tog for every 6 or so stitches. Slip stitch in first sc of the row.
For medium, repeat row 2 once more. For a large, repeat row twice more.
All sizes: Ch 1, crab stitch all the way around the neck.

HEM EDGE
Row 1: With white yarn, beginning at side edge, join yarn, ch 1, sc around the entire bottom edge, working one sc2tog for every 6 or so stitches. Join with a slip stitch in first sc.
Row 2: ch 1, sc around the entire bottom edge, working one sc2tog for every 6 or so stitches. Join with a slip stitch in first sc.
For medium: Work 2 more rows plain sc. For a large, work 4 more rows in sc.
All sizes: Ch 1, crab stitch all the way around the hem.

SLEEVES
Row 1: Beginning at armpit edge, with white yarn and US H, Ch 2, work across the entire armhole edge in hdc. Do not join.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc across arm hole stitches.
Repeat for another arm.

BAG
Create 4 flower squares like above and refer to diagram below.
Make two 2x1 panels by sewing them together. With wrong sides facing in, and beginning about 1 1/2" to the right of corner A on the diagram, sc through both panels, working 5 sc into each corner space (SEE DIAGRAM 2). Continue to join the two panels by single crocheting them together, until roughly 1.5" from corner B. Fasten off.
Finish with a strap of your choice, lining the bag with light fabric if desired.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terribly written pattern! This pattern is terrible! First of all, it doesn’t give you the measurements for the different sizes. Second, the stitching instructions are incomplete! It leaves stitches out or simply gives the wrong stitch sequence. Fortunately, I am an experienced crocheter and I was able to figure it out. If you have never crocheted before, don’t try this pattern. You will be terribly confused!
