  • 1 pkg. of 8" of Velcro
  • Separating Zipper (size on pattern)
  • 4" of Fusible Interfacing for Collar
  • Kraft Paper, Pencil
  • Thread
  • Sewing Notions

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: All seams are 5/8" unless stated.
  1. Cut out one cape of white, one cape of blue star fabric. Place center backs on the fold. Sew side seams leaving an opening for turning on the blue star fabric. Sew white and blue stars right sides together down the front, neckline and hem. Turn through blue star opening, press. Cut Velcro into two 4" strips. Sew Velcro near to the front neckline.
  2. Cut out jacket to pattern instructions. Omit pockets. Cut two strips 18" of blue star fabric, enough to expose the full stars for the V in the front of jacket. Place strip in the middle of the shoulder, angle to the center front about 13" long. Adjust for the size of jacket. Sew on to the jacket being careful not to stretch the blue star knit. Sew red ribbon on each side of blue star strips. Cut off any excess.
  3. Collar: Measure neckline of jacket. Draw a rectangle 3" x half of the neckline measurements of jacket. One end of rectangle will be the center back on the fold. The other end of rectangle will be the center front. Measure and mark the bottom center front of the rectangle 1" down and 1" out to make the collar pointed. Add 1/4" seam allowances on all outside edges except the center back. Cut two collars, one fusible. Press fusible to top collar, sew right sides together, turn, top stitch 1/4" sew into neckline. Follow instructions on pattern finishing jacket. Sew Velcro to neckline under the collar for attachment of cape.

JOANN HACKS:

  • To make the maximum of star showing, cut into the other star slightly. The red ribbon will be sewn over the edge of other part of star.
  • Using a ball point #12 or #14 sewing needle will work nicely for a soft knit.
