  8. PATTERN ADJUSTMENTS FOR STATEMENT COLLAR:
  9. Use upper collar pattern piece.
  10. Mark seam allowance with a dotted line.
  11. Add pattern paper under collar piece and draw new shape for collar.
  12. Design new shape by placing pattern piece on dress form or on your own neckline. (Keep in mind added width ruffle will add.)
  13. After designing new outer shape of collar add seam allowance.
  14. Do not change the neckline or the starting point at center front.

  16. Add Ruffle: Measure outline of new shape along seam line of entire collar. Multiply that length by 2 for ruffle. (Multiply by 2 1/2 for fuller ruffle.)
  17. Cut ruffle piece 3" wide by length determined above.
  18. Fold ruffle in half, right sides together and stitch along both short ends. Turn right side out (mark center and quarters for balancing gathers).
  19. Stitch two rows of gathering stitch along long length, gather.
  20. Add ruffle to right side of under collar along outside seam, starting at seam allowance at neckline and ending at seam allowance on other end. Adjust and balance gathers throughout to make even.
  21. Sandwich ruffle in between top collar and under collar, with seam allowances together and ruffle facing in. Pin together and stitch collar outer edges together along seam line, stopping at neckline seam allowance (front corner).
