SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% cotton fabric
  • Package of 1/2" double fold bias tape
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Pattern template (download PDF)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking "Download Pattern" below "Get Patterns" tab.
  2. Cut pattern from fabric.
  3. Match outer mask pieces right sides together and sew the outer curve. Repeat with lining pieces.
  4. Open both mask halves and press both seam allowances to the right.
  5. Topstitch down the center seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  6. To make ties: Cut 4 pieces of bias tape 19" long.
  7. Finish ends of bias tape by turning under and sewing. Stitch close to open edge of bias tape to finish ties.
  8. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Pin ends of ties in each corner, placing them 1/2" up/down from the top and bottom edge. Once ties are pinned in place, bundle the tie ends together in the center of the mask.
  9. Match front and back pieces right sides together, matching center front seams at the top and bottom.
  10. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner to turn mask.
  11. Clip across corners, and clip curves taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  12. Turn mask right side out and press.
  13. Topstitch around the mask 1/4" from the edge, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.
  14. To make ruffle: cut 2 strips of bias tape 8" long. Sew a basting stitch along open edge of bias tape to gather for ruffle. Pin ruffle to sides of mask, turning under edges to match sides and stitch in place close to edge.
