SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Assorted cardstocks 12"x12" 3-6 colors
- Tombow glue
- Cricut machine
- Spool of thin jute cord
- Scissors
- Download a teardrop or oval ornament shape from the images library in Design Space
- 3-4 small beads or gemstones
DIRECTIONS:
- On the Cricut machine cut and score in the middle from top to bottom of at least 6 of them all the same size. It looks better if you cut 8-10
- Fold the oval or teardrop on the middle score line. Place two shapes back to back on the fold to align the sides. Using a small amount on glue on the seam hold them two pieces together for a minute. Glue two more together and then glue the first glue to the second group. Keep gluing pairs together and then glue them to the first grouping. Once you have glued at least 4 of them together, place a piece of jute in the middle of the spine of the ornament, leaving a tail on each end of about 4". Place a small line of glue on top of the piece of jute while it is in the fold of the ornament. Continue to glue more pairs to the base until you have glued at least 6 of them together. It looks better if you glue at least 8 of them together. Once you have completed the ornament. Tuck in the top of the jute to create a loop. Place a dab of glue here.
- On the bottom piece of the jute thread on a few beads to give it a finished look. Tie the end off with a decorative knot.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- If you desire you can hot glue the jute in themiddle of the ornament to make it dry quicker so that you can continue to build the ornament.
Paper strips ornament
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Assorted cardstocks 12"x12" 3-6 colors
- Tombow glue
- Spool of thin jute cord
- Scissors
- 1 Roll of Washi tape or decorative tape
- x-acto knife
- metal straight edge
DIRECTIONS:
- On the Cricut machine cut strips of paper that are 1" wide by 12" of the different colors.
- Place the different color together matching them on each side of the grouping.
- Starting at the middle, you can glue the pieces together at the top between each layer.
- At the bottom of the glued strips, starting in the middle glue them together. Each time to get to the next outer layer, bend the two pieces outward to make an oval and create tension so that ther is spacing between each layer of different colors. You are building the layers to have open space between each layer starting from the inner two pieces and working to the outer layer.
- Once you get to the outer layer and you have created the spacing you desire you can glue the entire group together.
- To complete the ornament, insert a 4" piece of jute at the top of the ornament in between the glued layers.
- Apply washi tape to the top and bottom of the ornament to give it a finished look.
- Cut the entire group of glue papers to be about 5-6" long.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- You can also staple the layers together and then cover up the ends over the staple with the washi tape or extra strips of the card stock.
