SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Tulip Reverse Tie Dye Kit
  • Tulip Ombre Tie Dye Kit
  • 100% Cotton Colored Sweatshirt
  • Rubber bands
  • Garbage Bag or Drop Cloth
  • Spray Bottle

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Bunch up the sweater and use rubber bands to secure in place. Grab small sections of the sweater and wrap a rubber band around it so that it forms little balls. Start on the front of the sweatshirt, and then flip it over and add rubber bands to the other side. This can be random, and doesn't have to be perfect.
  2. Add warm water to the bleach bottles from the Tulip Reverse Tie Dye Kit. Shake them up until the powder is dissolved.
  3. Add the bleach to the front and back of the sweater. Be sure to wear gloves and cover workspace with garbage bag, if preferred.
  4. Remove the rubber bands, then wash and dry the sweater.
  5. Once it's dry, bunch it up again using the same technique as last time (front and back). Spray it with water to get it a little damp so that it absorbs the dye better.
  6. Choose your tie dye colors - Example uses the Butterscotch color. Add water to tie dye bottle and shake until the powder is dissolved.
  7. Add the dye to the front and back of your sweater, then remove the elastics.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Instead of waiting 6 to 8 hours for the dye to set you can microwave it for 2 minutes. After that, wash and dry it.
