Notes:
To begin working with the O’Go format, carefully cut plastic tie where the ends of the O’Go meet. Pull tie to remove. Start crocheting.
To maintain ombre effect when joining new O'Go join 2nd O'Go from opposite end so shades match (lightest end to lightest end) resulting in a fade from dark to light, and back again.
Hood is worked from bottom up in one piece beg in round and then continued flat in rows. When working in rounds, work is turned after each round.
It can be easy to miss first and last sts when working yarn over slip stitches (yoslst), so counting your sts every rnd/row may be beneficial.
COWL
Notes:
Ch-1 at beg of rnds does not count as st.
Turn after each rnd, working odd rnds with WS facing and even rnds with RS facing.
Rnds are joined with sl st to first st
Beg at darkest end of O'Go, loosely ch 104. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist ch.
Foundation rnd: (RS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 yoslst in first ch. 1 yoslst in each ch to end of rnd. Join. Turn. 104 sts.
1st rnd: (WS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 yoslst in each st around. Join. Turn.
2nd rnd: (RS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 yoslst in each st around. Join. Turn.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. Working under horizontal bar created in row below, 1 yoslst in each st around. Join. Turn.
4th rnd: Ch 1. Working under horizontal bar created in row below, 1 yoslst in each st around. Join. Turn.
Rep last 4 rnds until work from beg measures approx 7" [18 cm], ending on a 3rd rnd and placing markers on 52nd and 53rd sts of last rnd.
Fasten off.
Hood
With same end of yarn just fastened off, ch 5, leaving a 36" [91.5 cm] long end for seaming Drawstring Casing later. Cont as follows:
Joining Row: (RS). Working under horizontal bar created in last row across, 1 yoslst in 53rd st (leftmost marked st). 1 yoslst in each st around to next marker. Ch 6. 115 sts.
Do not join. Work back and forth in rows as follows:
1st row: (WS). Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in 2nd ch from hook. 1 yoslst in each of next 4 ch. 1 yoslst in each of next 104 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 5 ch. Turn. 114 sts.
**2nd row: (RS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 yoslst in each st to end of row. Turn.
3rd and 4th rows: Ch 1. Working under horizontal bar created in row below, 1 yoslst in each st to end of row. Turn.**
Proceed in 2x2 Ribbing Pat as follows:
1st row: (WS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 yoslst in each st to end of row. Turn.
2nd to 4th rows: Rep from ** to **.
Rep 1st to 4th rows for 2x2 Ribbing, until work from beg of Cowl measures approx 16¼" [41.5 cm], ending on a 4th row.
Shaping Back of Hood
1st row: (WS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 13 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 13 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn. 112 sts.
2nd row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 28 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn.
3rd and 4th rows: Ch 1. Working under horizontal bar created in row below, 1 yoslst in each st to end of row. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 12 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 12 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn. 110 sts.
6th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 26 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn.
7th and 8th rows: As 3rd and 4th rows.
9th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 11 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 11 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn. 108 sts.
10th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 24 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn.
11th and 12th rows: As 3rd and 4th rows.
13th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 10 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts. Skip next st. 1 sl st in each of next 10 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn. 106 sts.
14th row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only across row, 1 yoslst in each of first 42 sts. 1 sl st in each of next 22 sts. 1 yoslst in each of last 42 sts. Turn.
15th row: As 3rd row.
Fold in half (RS tog) and work through both thickness along top of Hood to join first 53 sts and last 53 sts, working 1 sl st under each pair of horizontal bars created in last row to fold. Fasten off. Turn Hood right-side out.
Drawstring
Ch 173.
1st row: (RS). Working into horizontal 'bump' at back of each ch, 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end of chain. Fasten off. 172 sts.
Finishing
Drawstring Casing: Turn first 4 sts and last 4 sts of Hood Portion to WS (inside) and whipstitch into place, leaving bottom edge of Drawstring Casing open. Pin safety pin to one end of Drawstring. Work Drawstring through Casing. Remove safety pin.
