SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2yd solid cotton fabric
- 1/2yd coordinating lining fabric
- 1/2yd novelty fabric for pocket
- 1yd iron-on interfacing
- 4yds cording for straps
- Basic sewing supplies
DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: 1/2" seam allowance- Cut (2) 17"x 15" for bag.
- Cut (2) 17"x 15" for lining
- Cut (2) 3" squares for tabs
- Cut (2) 12"x 11" for pocket
- Cut (2) 17"x 15" for interfacing
- Iron interfacing to the two main bag fabrics.
- With RST sew around all sides leaving an opening for turning.
- Turn and stitch opening closed. Press.
- Pin to front of bag, 2" up from bottom and centered.
- Stitch pocket to bag, 1/4" from edges. Leaving top open.
TABS
- Fold each in half, press. Open up and fold sides to center press. Fold again and press.
- Top stitch edge of tabs.
- Fold tabs in half. Pin to each side of bag 2" up from bottom.
- With RST pin bag together. Mark 2 1/2" down from top of bag.
- Sew around bag starting and stopping at the 2 1/2" mark.
- Sew lining together same as outside bag, starting and stopping at mark.
- Press seams of bag and lining open including the top that is not stitched.
- Insert lining into bag with WST. Pin around top and match the side slits.
- Baste the top of bag and stitch around slits 1/4" from edge.
- Fold top under 1/4" and press.
- Fold top down again having folded edge just below the side slit openings.
- Stitch around top close to the pressed edge.
- Cut the cording in half.
- Using a safety pin and, starting from left side, thread the cording through the casing and ending where you started.
- Take the other part of cording and starting on right side thread the cording through the casing and ending where you started.
- Slip one end of cording through the tabs at bottom and tie cords into knot.
- Repeat for other side.
