Drawstring Crop Top

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Basic sewing supplies
• Package 1/2" elastic
• McCall's 7947

DIRECTIONS:

1. Take measurements for the desired length of the crop top and cut pattern accordingly, shortening the length of what would otherwise be a dress.
2. For the drawstring feature, add an additional 1" to the hem of the top.
3. To omit the button-down closure, do not cut out the button placket pattern piece.
4. Take measurements to accurately add on to the center front, usually an additional 5/8".
5. Cut the front top on the fold instead of cutting two, per pattern instructions.
6. Construct the garment per pattern instructions.
7. Before sewing the casing, mark and stitch the buttonholes for the drawstrings.
8. To assemble the drawstring, cut 2" wide to desired length of the fabric.
9. Sew the drawstring like a bias facing, or loop.
10. Pin one end with a safety pin, thread it through the casing.
11. Pull and gather the drawstring to desired effect.

• To help figure the length of the drawstring, wrap a measuring tape around your waist and tie it. When you achieve the look you want, take note of the measurement.
