Beginner 3-5 Hours

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Unfinished wood box with clear panels
  • Rit® dye (maroon/dark red)
  • Gloves
  • Paper towels
  • Linen fabric
  • 1" foam
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun / glue
  • Bowl or container (large enough to fit the box into)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Mix dye in container with water to desired shade. Follow the directions on the container.
  2. Submerge the box in the dye bath until it is at your desired shade. Wipe off any excess dye from the box and the clear panels.
  3. Set aside to dry.

  4. Cut the foam so that it fits snug inside the box.
  5. Take half of the foam and wrap in fabric like a present. Secure the edges with glue at the bottom. Repeat with the second half of foam.

  6. Place the fabric covered foam inside the box so that the glued seams are at the bottom.
  7. Place rings inside the space in the middle of the two pieces of foam.

JOANN HACKS:

Do multiple dips in the dye bath to gradually get a darker color.
