DIRECTIONS:
Dying the trim:
- Dilute the Rite Dye in a bucket or metal stainless steel sink with hot water to the shade that you want the finished dyed trim to be.
- Unwind the trim from the spool prior to submersion into the dye bath.
- Place all of the eyelet trim into the dye bath and make sure it is submerged.
- Swirl the trim around in the bath to make sure it is evenly being soaked.
- Let the trim sit in the dye bath long enough ti be one shade darker than you want the finished color to be.
- One you are at the level that you desire, remove the trim and rinse it lightly until cold water until it runs clear.
- Let the trim dry before using.
Sewing the Skirt:
- Measure hips plus 4" for seams and ease, divide in quarters for front and back, placed on the fold. Draw a vertical line for the center front and back. Draw a horizontal line across for the hip line. Measure up 8" for the waist, draw a line across. Measure the length of desired skirt, add 1" on each side at the hem drawing a straight line up to the hip. Curve up 1" at the hem line starting at the center front to side seam.
- Divide skirt into 6 layers for ruffle placement starting at the waist. Measure each layer across to get exactly the amount of eyelet needed.
- Sew each layer of eyelet to lining starting at the waist overlapping each layer. Measure each line with chalk to assure straight sewing.
- Cut elastic to waist measurements plus 1". Cut elastic casing out of lining, 2 1/2"x length of the skirt waist measurements. Sew center back seam together plus elastic. Place elastic inside casing, fold over, stitch closed using a zipper foot to get close to elastic. The lining will be gathered around the elastic. Place on to skirt, using the zipper foot then serge seam.
- Hem lining with a turn and turn hem.
JOANN HACKS:
- Trim is pre-gathered, no need to gather trim.
- If gathered eyelet desired color is not available, pre-gather flat eyelet with a gathering foot to 1 1/2 gathers then bind raw edges with bias tape.
- Use chalk to measure placement lines for trim. This will give precise placement for trim.
