DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.
  2. Fill up a glass or plastic bowl with the hottest tap water and mix in dye. For this, we mixed in 4 teaspoons of dye with 1/2 cup of water. Play around with the dye to water ratio to determine your desired color. We used popsicle sticks to test the colors and adjusted accordingly.
  3. If you are trying to achieve a softer look, wet the wood and then let it dry for 15 minutes before dyeing.
  4. Dip or immerse item in dye bath for 1 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally. If dye bath is shallow, rotate items evenly.
  5. Let dye dry completely. If necessary, apply another coat of dye to achieve desired shade.
  6. Allow wood to dry completely.
