SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd Cotton Flannel for Center Piece
  • 1/2yd of 3 Coordinating Cotton Flannels for Strips
  • 2yds Flannel Fabric for Backing
  • 2yds Cotton Batting
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Rotary Cutter, Mat and Ruler

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut 1 rectangle 16"x 38" for center.
  2. Cut 2 strips of coordinating flannel 3 1/2"x 38" for first strip.
  3. Cut 2 strips of coordinating flannel 4 1/2"x 38" for second strip.
  4. Cut 2 strips of coordinating flannel 5 1/2"x 38" for last strip.
  5. With right sides together, sew first 2 strips for center rectangle using 1/4" seam allowance.
  6. Repeat with the second and last strips to create front of blanket.
  7. Press seams towards darker color of fabric.
  8. Layer together front of blanket, batting and back of fabric with right sides facing out.
  9. Pin together and sew along seam lines ("stitch in the ditch"), trim edges to make even.
  10. Create binding by cutting 4 strips of flannel 1 1/2"x 42".
  11. Fold in half and press, fold one side to center to create binding.
  12. With right sides together sew unfolded edge of binding to top using 1/4" seam allowance, trim seams and ends to make even, fold over and press to back side of blanket and stitch to finish binding.
  13. Repeat with bottom edge and then sides folding under the ends of the binding to finish.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Be creative when quilting as desired.
  • Choose coordinating prints or solids to create front of blanket.
  • Make sure all print fabrics are facing the correct way before sewing together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finished Size It appears that the size will be approximately 38" wide by 45" long. I am basing that measurement on the 18" center strip plus the 6 strips (2 x 3 1/2" + 2 x 4 1/2" + 2 x 5 1/2"). I
