Best math game for younger children!
This is one of the most durable games I've seen. The box doubles up as the seaside where one has to "dig" out Shelby's bones. This is a game where one spins the spinner to see how many bones one can get into ones bowl, the winner having the most bones. This game is super for beginner math skills. How many bones did you get last time, how many this time, how many altogether. You can bring in the math lingo, add, subtract, take away, how many together, etc. You know there are 40 bones in all, each one knows how many they have, how many in total do the others have etc. So many different wasy of utilizing counting with these bones, within the game it is fantastic. There is also the ey-hand coordination fo picking up the bones using the Shelby plastic tweezer-like squeezer, hoding on to the bone till you get to your bowl and dropping it in. Good fine motor skills and getting ready to write skills, holding the squeezer in a pen/pencil grasp etc. A definitely well rounded game for younger children.

Love this game!
Absolutely love this game!! It is very cutely designed so the kids could not wait to play it. Using Shelby the dog as a tool to pick up the bones is genius. It works on the kids fine motor without them realizing it. Likewise, the counting is great number practice. I thought that the 2 step spinner took some time for the children to get a grasp of so I had to direct them at the beginning but it certainly made them more attentive to each players turn.Great fun for pre-k aged children! Great Gift!

Perfect game for preschoolers
This is a very well made game with durable pieces and a cleverly designed box. My 3.5yo twins love it! I think they're finally at the age where they can follow directions and play a game correctly. They love using the Shelby Squeezer to pick up the little bones to put into the bowls. The game is an excellent way to practice their fine motor and counting skills. I 100% recommend this game and would love to try the other games by Educational Insights!

Who doesn't love a pug?
I received this game from Educational Insights in exchange for an honest review. My three year old daughter loves this game! The targeted age is a little older, however she loved "The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game" and she loves dogs so I thought we would give it a try. The spinner is a little hard for her to comprehend since it is not just one spinner but there are two spinners side by side that you do need to spin in order to know what you need to do. She is getting the hang of it though. She has had a difficult time taking turns but the more and more we play she tells me whose turn it is. She even hands out all the puppy dishes to everyone in the family to get them to play too! I love how durable the bones are as well. I'm sure she will be bringing it to me this morning to play again!

great game for therapy
I recently received a complimentary Shelby's Snack Shake Game from Educational Insights. Thank you for the opportunity to use this game in my therapy sessions! This is another easy game - a great beginner game for teaching children basic rules of game play. I've already used this is in therapy and it's a hit! Visually, this game is awesome! I love the picture scene inside the box - the box serves as part of the game! That's one of my favorite aspects of these games! The box is usable and it stores everything, remains closed, and makes for easy storage. The materials are sturdy which is important with my young clients and makes for easy transport across therapy sites. The object of this game is to collect the most bones in your bowl. After all the bones are gone, players count the bones in their bowl. The player with the most bones wins! It comes with: the spinner (a double spinner!), the dog squeezer, 40 bones, and 4 bowls. Instructions are included and very simple. Instructions will be easy to refer to by the young children. Several of the features of this game are similar to my other post which include: • Social skills - turn taking, good sportsmanship • Fine motor skills/pre-handwriting - grasping bones (picking up bones with the dog, maintaining grasp until dropping bone into the bowl) • Math - counting, simple addition/subtraction, quantity concepts (give me 3, give me 5, take 4) • Game strategy - choosing color to steal or take as bones when player lands on the steal picture (hungry pug), choosing from whom to take bones (foresight, prediction - looking at all bones in bowls at that moment in the turn) • Requesting- player has to request a turn, dog or spinner. For children who are nonverbal and using PECS, I have an icon made for each of the items needed so that they can use PECS (or iPad/Proloquo2Go) to request the items needed. • Learning coping - "no big deal" when you lose a bone or turn (seagull, hungry pug, busy pug). Parents and therapists can model the "no big deal, it's just a game" in addition to talking about the feelings. However, this game incorporates basic counting and quantity concepts, which makes it a great tool for one of my current clients who is working on knowing what "take 3 bones means" or "give me 2 bones." Expanded of the game to be used as part of learning a bigger thematic unit: • Dogs (types, what do they eat? Play with stuffed dog and act out taking care of pet) • Stealing - use the concept from this fun "squirrel" way to discuss realistic scenarios • Emotions - sad (squirrel), feeling when someone takes your acorn or you take theirs, feeling when you lose a turn - match these feelings to emotion words (frustrated, sad, guilty, etc.)

A favorite game for the last 10 months
My 6.5-year​ daughter loves this game. She got it for Christmas last year and still requests to play it often. I love that the game helps strengthen her "pincher" muscles. Instead of needing to pull out a playing board, the box is used as the board. Great game!

My two year old and six year olds all love to play Shelby's Snack Shack! As a preschool teacher and parent of little ones I love that it reinforces fine motor skills along with counting. It is cute, well made and lots of fun!

Fun and age appropriate!
My kids (4.5 year old twins) loved this before they even opened the game! The box is appealing to little kids, and they got a kick out of the dog's name (Shelby). Even my 1.5 year old has been saying "Shelby" around the house. The spinner was a little hard for the kids to use initially, but after a few tries, they got the hang of it. I think it helped build their fine motor skills. I'm usually not a big fan of board games because I hate reading detailed instructions, but the instructions for this game were concise and super easy to follow. It's a fun game that doesn't take a whole lot of time to complete. So it's appropriate in regards to keeping kids' attention just long enough for them to finish a game. We have a lot of people who visit our family, and our kids have pulled out this game for each visitor to play with them. I don't have to take time to explain how to play, and the kids have been able to explain themselves or it takes 1 minute for the visitor to read the instructions to play along with the kids.

Awesome first game for toddlers!
Great starter game for toddlers! My three year old loved it! Not only is it interactive, but it's educational. The directions were super easy and the game was surprisingly sturdy! The box itself is used to play the game- which makes cleanup a breeze with the adorable plastic bones. I loved that their were no batteries to change:) This game helped with counting! It also helped with taking turns (which we have a hard time doing). Using the Shelby Pug tongs to pick up the bones was a also a great way to reinforce small motor skills and lots of fun too! I loved watching my daughter learn sportsmanship as she was playing the game because you get to "steel" bones, add bones, or remove bones from your bowl. I would recommend this game for teaching numbers, social skills or good family fun at any age! Definitely our new go to game to play!

Adorable game!
This game is a big hit with my daughter who is nearly four. As a parent, I love the easy set up and concise instructions. It allows us to start the game quickly. We've been playing for a couple weeks and the length of each game always seems not too long or too short and we can play a couple rounds. My daughter loves the dog theme and loves counting the bones at the end. My husband thinks the numbers around the second spinner should be out of sequence, but I don't think it matters. I would definitely recommend this a gift idea for any child in the 4 and up age range!

Great game for preschoolers!
We were excited to try out the Shelby's Snack Shack Game as up until this point a crowd pleaser for our four year old had been Sneaky Squirrel which is also a great game! The double spinner makes it fun to get two opportunities to spin it based on what you land on the first wheel. The bone grabber is also what attracted us to this game as we found them to help with our son's fine motor skills. Our son even named the dog his own cute pet name :) The game and pieces are all good quality, sturdy and durable so we anticipate it to last awhile with our youngsters. Even our two year old was having fun trying to follow along. The game has an easy concept to win but its engaging and fun. Would definitely recommend this game!

4 year old enjoys playing this (and reinforces counting)
My daughter, who is 4 years old, likes to play this game, which is a great way to learn counting. It is also a great game through which she learns to go through various "moves," whether it is getting more bones, losing bones, or even losing a turn.

Fun game
I was excited to try out Shelbys snack shack game since it's for ages 4 and up and and my son's favorite game has been Sneaky Snacky Squirrel but it is for younger kids. My boys are 3 and 5 and this game is the new hit in the house. I liked having the double spinner as it was more exciting getting to spin twice! It was a little bit hard to catch up if you are losing as there isn't a spin that has you dump all your bones but there is a chance to sneak another players bones and the number is based on what you spin. I liked how many bones are included in the game so we could really play for a while and the kids liked filling up their dog bowls. My 3 year old enjoyed using the Shelby grabbers to get the bones which made it more interactive for him. My 5 year old liked keeping count of everyone's bones and then counting them out at the end to find the winner. I would highly suggest this game for kids ages 3-6.

"Great for preschoolers!"
This is a game that my preschool students ask for weekly. They learned the concepts quickly and enjoy playing without my help. Each time they play they are learning: color recognition, turn taking, symbol concepts, and number recognition, all while building their small motor muscles and hand-eye coordination with the use of Shelby as tweezers. This game is a winner!

What's not to love?!
what's not to love about this game? it features a cute dog and attractive game pieces/set, incorporates learning (counting, adding, subtracting, comparing), and is super easy to play. both my 4 and 6 year-old children understood the game right away and had a blast playing. it was an added bonus that both my children have been obsessed with dogs. the game was simple to play, but included fun twists to keep you guessing until the end. the dog pincher was good for practicing fine motor skills, and we all enjoyed stacking up the bones before picking up, as well. A minor annoyance was that sometimes the bones are hard to pick up if they're close to the wall of the box, but on the flip side, the walls helped contain the bones (and kept them from going everywhere). i highly recommend!

Fun and educational game
My kids love dogs, so naturally, they love playing Shelby's Snack Shack! When we first received the game, I was quickly able to read and understand the directions. Shelby's Snack Shack provides multiple opportunities for learning including assisting with their counting skills, recognizing numbers, concepts of sharing and taking turns, and helping to improve their fine motor skills through the use of the Shelby Squeezer. The game is well constructed and holds up to the daily use of my three small children. This is a great game for our family to play.

Wonderful, simple game!
My kids (ages 3, 4, and 5) absolutely loved this game! It is very simple to set up and start playing, no complicated pieces to pop out or crazy rules to learn. We got to practice our fine motor skills (grasping Shelby to pick up bones), counting, taking turns, and listening to rules. The kids wanted to play again and again! I think that this game is great for a variety of ages; even younger kids can play with some help. I helped my 3 year old with transferring bones from box to bowl, for instance. Overall, this is a wonderful game that we will play with for years to come!

We played this with my newly 3 year old who is just beginning to count and it was simple and very attainable for him time wise and skill wise but you could easily make it more challenging as skill level grows. We really loved the fact that there was opportunity for loss. It really challenged his sense of possessiveness that the rules of the game included the seagull taking or other players taking the bones from his bowl. A great opportunity to discuss the concept of rules of games! He has asked to play this daily since we got it. Very thoughtfully designed down to a tactile element on the shelby pug pick up tool making it easy for little hands to grasp and 'rubbery' bones that dont easily slip! I recieved this as a tester for review and all comments are honest and fully my own.

Fun and educational
My 4 & 7 year old boys love this game. They love using the Shelby tweezers and when they get to "steal" bones from each other. I love that it reinforces counting and number recognition for my 4 year old, and I give my 7 year old addition and subtraction problems with the bones to challenge him. I also like that they can easily set it up themselves and play independently without adult participation every time. This would be a great gift.

Adorable!
Intended for my four year old, but enjoyed by her seven year old brother and older friends as well. Nicely designed. I had concerns when I saw the size of the "dog" grabber, but my four year old was able to use it without issue. The kids also enjoyed playing with their Auntie and Grandma. Fun for the whole family.

Perfect for a Four-Year-Old
Absolutely loved Shelby's Snack Shack! Our four year old daughter truly loved opening the game up and getting it all set up. She can run the entire thing by herself, including set up and playing. The game is adorably themed, and for pug people, it doesn't get any better than the Shelby Squeezer. The concept is perfect and really is wonderful for helping a young child learn to add and subtract. I would highly recommend this game!

Cute, fun, educational
We were given this game for review, and My three kids (3, 5, and 6 years old) were very excited to play this game. The packaging is very inviting and super cute. The directions were easy to follow and my kids had no problems following the rules. The game was fun for my two younger kids. My 6 year old thought the game was underwhelming. Mainly because everyone would get a "bone" when they spinned (the 3 bone slots are larger then the seagull or pug stealing a bone). She kept saying "everyone gets a bone." I gave this 4 stars because the game did get my kids counting and I feel like the pug grabber really helped with their fine motor skills. Overall, a fun, educational and cutedesigned game!

My son loved it
My son received this as a gift from his grandparents this year and he loved it immediately. He loved to use Shelby to pick up and count the bones. He is just 4 and loves to count. He has a hard time staying focused, but this game kept him entertained until the end, when he immediately wanted to play again.

Perfect Game for the Whole Family
The instructions were easy to follow. The game is about a dog named Shelby and she has buried bones on the beach and needs your help in collecting them. Whoever collects the most bones wins. To play, you spin the first spinner to see if you get to pick up bones, lose your turn because you were sidetracked by chewing on a flip flop, lose bones because of the sneaky seagull, or get to steal someone else's bones! Once you know which action you will be doing, you then spin the spinner to see how many bones you get to get (or lose). You then use the Shelby squeezer to pick the bones up and put in your bowl. The game is so cute to play and it's a great educational game too! Your child can practice counting and early number skills. Also, squeezing the Shelby squeezer helps build their fine motor skills. We absolutely loved it and my son requests to play it daily and neither of us are bored of it yet, it's really cute and a lot of fun!
