- Prepare surface by washing and ironing the Denim Jacket.
- Begin this project by preparing your design.
- Draw your butterfly design on an 8.5" x 11" piece of white paper with a pencil. Do this to make sure your design will fit the area you want to embellish.
- Open the packages of crystals and lay out your butterfly design on the paper to see how it will look.
- Once you have the design to your liking, take your white fabric marking pencil and draw your design outline onto the jacket collar. Work on one collar at a time.
- Set up your ironing board and heat your iron on medium heat, no steam.
- Carefully bring the design, crystals, jacket and parchment/tracing paper to the ironing board.
- Lay the denim jacket on the ironing board and spread out the collar to place the crystals onto the drawn outline.
- To place the crystals, use the mini wax pencil included in the combo pack.
- Gently tap the crystal with the pencil and let it stick. Carefully transfer the crystal to the outline on the collar.
- Once you are happy with the layout the and the iron is hot enough, gently place the sheet of parchment/tracing paper over the design. The parchment /tracing paper is used to protect the crystals and material from the iron, so it should be big enough to cover the working area.
- It is very Important that you do not move the parchment paper at this time as the design could move as well under the paper.
- Place the hot iron directly down onto the parchment paper, making sure the iron is also covering the design.
- Let go of the iron.
- Do not move or touch the iron for 60 seconds.
- Remove Iron and check the design. Let garment cool before moving it.
- Repeat these steps for the other collar making a simple graduated daisy star design.
JOANN HACKS:
- Larger designs can be made using this technique with more crystals on the back of the Denim Jacket.
