Embroidered Cloth Napkins with Mitered Corners

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Cotton Fabric, 1/2 yard
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Iron
  • Optional: Rotary cutter, Mat & Ruler

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: Makes 2, 16" napkins
  1. Cut two 17"X 17" squares from cotton fabric. (For an alternative size, add an inch to desired length and an inch to desired width.)
  2. Fold a side in 1/4" and press with iron. Fold side in 1/4" again, and press with iron again.
  3. Repeat for all four sides.
  4. Unfold and trim corner from square to square, made by the folds.
  5. Refold the first fold on both sides.
  6. Fold the trimmed corner point down to the second creased lines.
  7. Refold the second fold on both sides; pin into place.
  8. Repeat for all four corners.
  9. Secure folds with straight pins and sew around all four edges 1/4" from the folded edge.
  10. Use embroidery thread to add a decorative running stitch around the edge.
