Star and Shell Shaped Pillows

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2/3yd each fleece for Star & shell pillows
  • 2 buttons for each pillow
  • Floss for each pillow
  • 1 pkg Polyfil®
  • 1 pkg batting
  • Disappearing marking pen
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut two Star pattern or Shell pattern
  2. Cut two batting for each pillow.
  3. For Star pillow: With wrong sides together, stitch 1/2" seam around outside leaving an opening for stuffing.
  4. Turn and stuff pillows.
  5. Sew opening closed.
  6. Mark center of star pillow and thread floss through back button and insert needle into front catching the second button in front pulling tight.
  7. Mark lines from button in front to space between points of star.
  8. Sew running stitch out from center to the space between points with floss.
  9. Cut five 2" x 5" strips for tassels.
  10. Cut fringe along the 5" side stopping 1/4" from top.
  11. Apply a small amount of glue along top and roll the strip to form tassel.
  12. Sew tassels to each point of star.
  13. For Shell pillow, cut two from pattern and batting.
  14. Mark front of pillow following lines from pattern.
  15. Stitch along vertical lines.
  16. With RST, stitch front to back shell leaving an opening at bottom for turning.
  17. Turn shell.
  18. Stuff shell only on top section and stitch horizontal line across front.
  19. Stuff next section of shell and again stitch across following the horizontal line.
  20. Continue stuffing each section and sewing along lines till bottom.
  21. Sew opening closed.

Endless Summer Pillows

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd each fleece for 14"x 28" & 18" x 18" pillows
  • 1 pkg piping for binding
  • 18" x 18" pillow form
  • 14" x 28" pillow form
  • Fabric glue
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. For 18" x 18" pillow:
  2. Cut one 19" square for front, two 13" x 19" rectangles for back.
  3. With RST, pin back to front overlapping the back rectangles.
  4. Stitch along outside using a 1/2" seam.
  5. Turn and insert pillow form.
  6. For tassels:
  7. Cut four 2" x 5" rectangles.
  8. Cut fringe along 5" side every 1/4" stopping at top 1/4".
  9. Using a small amount of glue along top, roll each piece.
  10. Sew tassels to each corner.
  11. For 14" x 28" pillow:
  12. Cut one 15" x 29" rectangle for front, two 15"x 17" rectangle for back.
  13. Cut strips for piping 2"x WOF, enough to measure 95".
  14. Make piping and sew to front panel.
  15. With RST, stitch front to back overlapping back to fit front.
  16. Turn and insert pillow form.

Summer Sea Mats

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2yds each fleece for top, bottom & sides of mat
  • Batting for added softness on top of foam
  • Floss
  • 6 buttons for each mat
  • Spray adhesive
  • Fabric glue
  • Long upholstery needle
  • 24" x 36" foam for mat 4" thick
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut two 25" x 37" from fleece.
  2. Cut two 5" x 25" from fleece for two sides and 5" x 37" for long sides of mat.
  3. Sew the sides together starting and stopping 1/2" from top and bottom.
  4. Sew the sides to top using a 1/2" seam.
  5. Sew the bottom to sides leaving one short side open for turning and inserting foam.
  6. Cut one batting 24" x 36" for top.
  7. Using spray adhesive, glue batting to top of foam.
  8. Insert foam into fleece cover.
  9. Sew opening closed.
  10. Measure and mark six spots evenly on top of mat for tufting.
  11. Sew buttons to mat using floss and buttons pulling tight forming tufting.
  12. For corners, pinch the top to bottom and sew together.
  13. Cut four 5" x 10" strips for tassels.
  14. Fringe along 10" side every 1/4".
  15. Using a small amount of glue along top, roll strip to form tassel.
  16. Stitch one tassel to each corner.
