BODY
Ribbing
Cut first loop of yarn close to base to create a tail approx 3" long.
Count 60 (68-80) loops for foundation row. Tie tail to yarn between 60th (68th-80th) and 61st (69th-81st) loops to create ring. Place ring on flat surface with all loops pointing out to avoid twisting ring.
1st round: With working yarn held at back, twist next loop once to left. Pull 61st (69th-81st) loop from working yarn up through twisted loop. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next loop. *With yarn in back, twist next loop once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted loop. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next loop. Rep from * around. 60 (68-80) sts in round.
2nd round: *With yarn in back, twist next st once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted st. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next st. Rep from * around.
Rep 2nd round twice more.
Proceed in pattern as follows:
1st round: With yarn in back, pull first loop from working yarn up through first st of round. *Pull next loop from working yarn up through next st. Rep from * 3 (5-8) times more. (With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next st. With yarn in back, twist next st once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted st) twice. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through each of next 2 sts. With yarn in back, pull next loop from working yarn up through each of next 8 sts. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through each of next 2 sts. (With yarn in back, twist next st once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted st. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next st) twice. **With yarn in back, pull next loop from working yarn up through next st. Rep from ** to end of round.
2nd round: As 1st round.
3rd round: With yarn in back, pull first loop from working yarn up through first st of round. With yarn in back, skip next 2 sts from previous row. Holding skipped sts at front of work, (pull next loop from working yarn up through next st) twice. Pull next loop from working yarn up through first skipped st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through second skipped st - Front Cross made. Skip next 2 loops of working yarn. (Pull next loop from working yarn up through next st from previous row) twice. Working in front of sts just worked, pull first skipped loop from working yarn up through next st, pull second skipped loop from working yarn up through next st - Back Cross made.
4th round: As 1st round.
Rep last 4 rounds, working cable row every 4th round, until piece measures approx 17" from bottom.
Divide for armholes: Place a safety pin between first and last sts of rnd. Place another safety pin between 29th (33rd-39th) and 30th (34th-40th) sts of rnd. Working from right to left, pull 2nd (3rd-4th) st to the right of first safety pin over next st to bind off. Bind off next 3 (5-7) sts in this manner. Remove safety pin. 4 (5-8) sts bound off each armhole in total, divided as 2 (3/4) sts bound off on either side of each safety pin.
Rep this on opposite side of Body. 52 (56-64) sts remain - 26 (28-32) sts each for Front and Back. Leave these sts until Sleeves are complete.
SLEEVES (make 2)
Cut first loop of yarn close to base to create a tail approximately 3" long. Count 14 (16-18) loops for foundation round. Tie tail to yarn between 14th (16th-18th) and 15th (17th-19th) loops to create ring. Place ring on a flat surface with all loops pointing out to avoid twisting ring. 14 (16-18) sts in round.
1st round: With yarn in back, twist next loop once to left. Pull 15th (17th-19th) loop from working yarn up through twisted loop. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next loop. *With yarn in back, twist next loop once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted loop. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next loop. Rep from * around.
2nd round: *With yarn in back, twist next st once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted st. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next st. Rep from * around.
3rd round: Pull first loop from working yarn up through first st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through next st. Continue in this manner to end of round.
4th round: Pull first 2 loops from working yarn up through first st (increase made). *Pull next loop from working yarn up through next st. Rep from * to last st. Pull next 2 loops from working yarn up through next st (increase made). 2 sts increased. 16 (18-20) sts at end of round.
Rep 3rd and 4th rounds 3 (4-5) times more. 22 (26-30) sts at end of last round.
Work 7 (4-2) rounds even (as 3rd round).
Place a safety pin between first and last sts of round. Working from right to left, pull 2nd (3rd-4th) st to the left of first safety pin over next st to bind off. Bind off the next 3 (5-7) sts in this manner. Remove safety pin. 18 (20-22) sts remain.
Cut thread at base of next 2 loops of working yarn to create a yarn “tail". Do not weave in ends as these will be used in next step for seaming.
Joining Sleeves and Body
Using yarn tails remaining from Sleeves, use tapestry needle to seam one Sleeve to each side of Body along bound off sections only. Place a safety pin between each transition between Sleeve and Body. Place sweater on a flat surface, with all live sts facing up. 88 (96-108) sts in rnd. 4 safety pins in position which will move up every rnd.
1st round: Beginning with first st of Left leeve, pull first loop from working yarn up through first st of round. Pull next loop from working yarn up through next st of round. Continue in this manner to end of round.
2nd round: Place next loop of round behind following loop creating a double loop - treat this double loop as 1 st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through double stitch - right leaning decrease made. *Work sts as usual until 2 sts before next safety pin. Hold next loop on top of following loop creating a double loop - treat this double loop as 1 st. Pull next loop from working yarn up through double loop - left leaning decrease made. Make one right leaning decrease. Rep from * twice more. Work sts as usual until 2 sts before next safety pin. Make one left leaning decrease. 8 sts decreased. 80 (88-100) sts remain.
Rep 2nd round 6 (7-7) times more. 32 (32-36) sts remain.
Collar: Proceed in rib pattern as follows:
1st round: *With yarn in back, twist next st once to left. Pull next loop from working yarn up through twisted st. With yarn in front, pull next loop from working yarn towards back through next st. Rep from * around.
Rep last round once more.
Bind off round: Pull 2nd st through 1st st. Pull 3rd st through 2nd st. Pull 4th st through 3rd st. Continue in this manner to end of round. Cut last loop to create yarn ‘tail’. Tie to secure and weave in ends.
