SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Decorator Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine
  • Staple Gun
  • Staples for Staple Gun, Ceiltile, 1 box
  • Hammer

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Take measurements of cushion, length, width and height. Add 1" to length and width for top fabric panel for 1/2" SA. Add 2 1/2" to width and 1" to length of side panels for 1/2" SA on top seam and end seams. The additional 2" on bottom long edge will allow fabric to be wrapped around and stapled to the underside of the frame.
  2. If the fabric has a geometric design use the pattern as a cue for SA. Keep seams on stripes of fabric.
  3. Line up the pattern on the top long edge with the pattern on one long side piece. With RST sew leaving the first and last 2" unsewn. Repeat for other three sides.
  4. Place the cover WS on top of the cushion. Line up the raw edges of the side ends and pin. Tighten each corner side to fit snug to the cushion. Remove and sew from the bottom edges of the side corners to 1/2" from the top (this will allow flare of the seam when attaching on a curve to the top panel).
  5. Place one corner of the cover top WS on a flat surface. With the corner seams opened pin the corners to the top on a curve. Repeat for other three corners. Sew.
  6. Fold top seams down to sides, topstitch 1/4" from seam.
  7. Fold corner seams out and topstitch both sides 1/4" from seam.
  8. Place cover RSO onto cushion. Staple starting at centers of sides. Pull the fabric to center the pattern over the cushion. Fold under the raw edges. Staple approximately every 2". Remove any bulky fabric at corners prior to stapling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Abbreviations I'm barely what I'd consider a beginner and I was able to decipher the abbreviations without too much effort: WS = wrong side, RS = right side. O = out, T = together. So, RSO = right side out. Etc. I've always had a little trouble with the terms "right side" and "wrong side," but that's apparently how everybody refers to the two sides of fabric so I just try to deal with it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very confusing directions I am a sewer and I couldn't make out your directions. If this is for a beginner, you need to speak to us as beginners. Not well done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clarification I agree w/ the previous reviewer. The project is a good one, but to eliminate trial & error guesswork, please provide the abbreviation meanings. Thank you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How To Make A Fabric Covered Cushion The directions were extremely confusing. Abbreviations were not explained and directions not at all clear. Pictures would have helped as well. I would never attempt this project using the instructions given.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Timely project - good idea - needs more detail I have a bench with a naked pillow top that I need to recover. Been procrastinating for weeks. This came up - I'm ready to go! It says beginner, I'm more in the intermediate range, but for a beginner - the abbreviations aren't explained, and would need to be for someone starting out. A few more clarifying details would be good.
