Beginner Under 1 Hour

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/8yd material
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter & cutting mat
  • Plastic headband
  • Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
  • Craft Bond glue stick (optional)
  • Sewing clips (optonal)
  • Iron
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine & matching thread

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut a piece of material a little longer than your headband with enough width to cover the inside of the headband as well as the top.
  2. Add thin lines of hot glue to the inside of the headband.
  3. Fold your fabric from short end to short end and place the folded center onto the center of the headband. The fabric width should be centered as well; you should have enough fabric to wrap around both edges of the headband and hide the raw edges along the center of the headband’s top.
  4. Smooth fabric out from the center to the tip. Then, flip and adhere excess fabric to the top, trimming so that the raw edge of the fabric is centered across the whole headband.
  5. Next, make a fabric twist for the top.
  6. Cut two 4 1/2"x 22" pieces of fabric, iron and sew right sides together with a 1/4" seam.
  7. Flip right side out and iron flat.
  8. Twist fabric in the center and position onto the center of the headband; clip into place with sewing clips if desired.
  9. Add small dabs of hot glue anywhere needed to secure the twist to the headband.
  10. Cut off excess fabric at the ends of the headband, and finish off the ends by making small fabric caps to attach over the raw fabric edges.
  11. Cut two 2 1/2"x 2" rectangles. Fold in half, long side to long side, and press with iron. Open and fold in each long side 1/4" and press with iron.
  12. Then, fold in half, long side to long side, in the opposite direction of its pressing - right sides together.
  13. Pin together and sew each short side with a 1/4" seam.
  14. Flip back right side out and press with your iron. Then, pull the fabric cap you just made over the raw edges at the headband’s end. Put a dab of hot glue under the cap on the inside of the headband and the outside of the headband to keep the cap in place.
  15. Repeat to make a cap for the other end.

JOANN HACKS:

To ensure a smooth adhesion, you can use a Craft Bond glue stick instead of hot glue when wrapping your fabric around the headband.
