SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1/2yd Coordinating Cotton or Knit Fabrics
- 1/2yd Wonder Under Fusible Web
- 1/2yd Craft-Fuse Heavyweight Interfacing
- Buttons
- Headpins (8)
- 1/4" x 12" Dowel Rods
- Jewelry Pliers
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Disappearing Ink Pen
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut two 6" squares of coordinating fabrics for each pinwheel.
- Cut a 6" square of fusible web for each pinwheel.
- Cut a 6" square of Craft-fuse.
- Attach craft fuse to wrong side of one square, let cool.
- Iron fusible web to wrong side of second coordinating square, let cool, remove paper and iron to craft-fuse.
- Trim edges if necessary.
- Mark a 2.5" line diagonally from each corner toward center of square with marking pen
- Cut along marked lines.
- Sew the raw edges of the squares using a zigzag stitch, making sure to hold corners out of the way when sewing.
- Mark the center of the square and fold every other corner to meet at the center to make pinwheel, stitch to hold corners in center.
- Push one pin through buttonhole and attach to center of pinwheel, cut off excess and bend over end to secure to pinwheel.
- Push second pin through other buttonhole and push into end of dowel, using pliers, bend pin to make pinwheel vertical, making sure that pinwheel will spin.
JOANN HACKS:
- Make patchwork squares for additional fabric choices.
- Use a nail to attach pinwheel and glue button to nail head if desired.
- Finish edges of pinwheel with straight stitch if desired.
