SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/4 white vinyl
  • 1/3yd 100% cotton supima fabric in honey gold
  • 1/4yd cotton batting
  • Gold cotton thread
  • Pattern for size 8 shoe (can be adjusted)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut out all fabric pieces as noted on patterns. If you need a different size, add or subtract 1/2" in length to both patterns per full shoe size.
  2. Place one outer cotton supima fabric on top of batting with right side facing up and pin together.
  3. Match up the short ends of the this pinned piece so that the right sides of the cotton supima fabric sides are facing each other and pin. Stitch through cotton supima and batting with a 1/4" seam allowance. This is the outer top piece.
  4. Pin the outer top piece to the vinyl with right sides facing. Start pinning at the center of the toe section and work your way around with pins every 1/2".
  5. Stitch together, starting at the center of the toe section and working your way to the seam at the heel. Then flip it over and finish the other half. This will ensure your heel seam stays centered and if it ends up to be slightly too long, you can take your seam in as needed. Trim your edges and cut small v-shapes on the rounded parts.
  6. Place one cotton supima fabric piece from inner bottom pattern on top of two pieces of batting and pin together.
  7. Quilt them together by stitching diagonal lines every 1" from the toe to the heel. Then work from the opposite side from the toe to the heel. Remove pins as necessary.
  8. Create the inner top cotton supima piece by stitching the two short ends together with right sides facing.
  9. Pin the inner top cotton supima piece to the quilted inner bottom piece with right sides facing. Start from the center toe and work your way to the heel seam. Repeat on the other side.
  10. Stitch with about 1/3" seam allowance around the edges as we want this size of the inner piece to be slightly smaller than the size of the outer piece. Leave a 4" gap on the instep so that it can all be turned right side out later. Trim your edges and then cut small v-shapes on the rounded parts.
  11. Make sure your outer piece is inside out and your inner piece is right side out. Tuck the inner piece into the outer piece, line the heel seams up, and pin the two together around the shoe opening.
  12. Sew all the way around the opening with a 1/4" seam allowance and trim. Cut small v-shapes on the rounded parts.
  13. Gently pull the inner part out and then pull the whole thing through the opening to make sure it's all right side out. Then tuck the inner part back inside the outer part. Use a blind stitch to close the opening on the instep.

  14. Create a floppy pom pom using cotton yarn by wrapping the cotton yarn around all four fingers 100 times. Then tie an 8" piece of the same yarn so that it wraps all the way around your 100 wraps and pull tightly before making a double knot. Trim all the looped ends and shape your pom pom. Stitch it to the top of your slipper using a needle and thread. Repeat for your second slipper.
