SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd - Fall print fabric
  • 1/3 yd - coordinating fabric for pocket
  • 1/2 yd - fusible fleece interfacing
  • 1/2 yd - fusible light interfacing for pocket
  • 1 - 1" button
  • Rotary cutter, mat and grid ruler
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

    (1/2" seam allowance) (finished size 14" x 19")
  1. Cut 2 - from fall fabric and fleece interfacing 15" x 20"
  2. Cut 2 - 9" squares from coordinating print and 1 - 9" from interfacing.
  3. Fuse interfacing to coordinating pieces.
  4. With RST, stitch 9" square together on two sides.
  5. Turn and press.
  6. Top stitch around the two seams.
  7. Place the pocket on front of placemat having the two raw edges of pocket at side and bottom.
  8. Baste around edges.
  9. With RST pin back to front of placemat, leaving an opening for turning.
  10. Turn and sew opening closed.
  11. Top stitch around placemat at 1/4" from edge.
  12. Top stitch again 1/4" in from first stitching.
  13. Top stitch top edge of pocket from side of placemat in 2".
  14. Top stitch side edge of pocket from bottom up 2".
  15. Fold corner of pocket down and sew on button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easiest Place-mats to make. I love these place-mats. I made one set of 4 and now am making a set of 8. They are very easy to make. I made mine for Christmas using JoAnn's Christmas fabrics. The silverware and napkin pocket works so well. The photo shows the first ones I made.
