DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATION:sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
NOTES:
3 Stars, 1 Sun, 3 Planets, and 1 Rocket Ship are each worked separately, then tied to the embroidery hoop to make the Mobile.
The gauge is meant to be a bit tight - this helps keep the stuffing from poking through.
STARS (make 3)
Front
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc - you will have 10 sc in this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st as joining sl st, 2 dc in each st around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - 20 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, beg in same st as joining sl st, *hdc in next st, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next st (point made), hdc in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc - 5 points.
Fasten off.
Back
Make same as Front.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Hold Front and Back with WS together and sts matching. Using yarn tail, sew pieces together along tops of sts of Rnd 2, leaving points of Rnd 3 unsewn and stuffing piece before completing the seam.
SUN:
Front
With A, ch 4.
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 9 dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc); join with sl st in top of beg ch - you will have 10 dc (including beg ch-3) in this rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, beg in same st as joining sl st, work 2 sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc - 20 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), sk same st as joining sl st, 2 dc in next st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - 30 dc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, beg in same st as joining sl st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc - 40 sc.

SMALL PLANET:
Front
With C, ch 2.
Rnd 1 (RS): Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; do not join, work in continuous rnds (spiral) - you will have 6 sc in this rnd.
Place a marker in last st made to indicate end of rnd. Move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around - 12 sc.
Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 18 sc.
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 24 sc.
Fasten off.
Back
Make same as Front.

Make same as Front.
Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.
With E and using photograph as a guide, embroider straight st 'land' in random places on Front and Back.
Hold Front and Back with WS together and sts matching.
With yarn tail, sew pieces together, stuffing piece before completing the seam.
LARGE PLANET:
Front
With G, ch 2.
Rnds 1-6: With G, work same as Rnds 1-6 of Medium Planet - you will have 36 sc in Rnd 6.
Rnd 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around - 42 sc.
Fasten off.
Back
Make same as Front.
Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.
Ring
With B, ch 25.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - you will have 24 sc in this row.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. With yarn tail, sew ends of Row 1 together to shape piece into a circle.
Hold Front and Back with WS together and sts matching. With yarn tail, sew pieces together, stuffing piece before completing the seam.
Slide Ring over Planet and sew Ring to Planet.
ROCKET SHIP:
Front
With F, ch 14.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - you will have 13 sc in this row.
Rows 2-9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts, sc2tog - 11 sc.

Flames
Cut 10 lengths each of A and B, about 4 in. (10 cm) long.
Hold 2 strands each of A and B together and fold in half. Insert hook in one long edge of Booster and use hook to draw fold through, forming a loop. Insert ends of strands into loop and pull to tighten.
Rep to attach a total of 5 flame fringes evenly spaced along one long edge of Booster.
Window
With D, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for sewing.
With yarn tail, sew Window to Front of Rocket Ship.
Hold Front and Back with WS together and sts matching. Using photograph as a guide to placement, place edges of Wings and Booster between edges of Front and Back.
With yarn tail, sew pieces together, sewing through edges of Wings and Booster to attach them as you sew. Stuff piece before completing seam.
FINISHING:
Weave in yarn ends.
Assemble Mobile
Cut lengths of F.
Tie a length to top of Stars, Sun, Planets, and Rocket Ship. Wrap each length around embroidery hoop a few times then knot securely. Do not trim ends of yarn lengths, they will be used to make a hanging loop.
Hanging Loop
Draw ends of yarn lengths to center above hoop and tie into a loop.
Wrap another length of yarn around base of loop to hide ends.
