Felt Christmas Ornaments

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Felt sheets various colors
  • Coordinating thread
  • Sequins and beads
  • Embroidery floss, various colors, silver and gold.
  • Poly-fil
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Chopstick

DIRECTIONS:

Dinosaur Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the green felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add horn details with white felt. Use silver embroidery floss to create head details using a long blanket stitch. Add sequin and bead details.
  4. Finish off with a small loop for hanging.
  5. The necklace look in this project is simply created by stacking sequins and beads over and over until you reach the desired length.

Brown Bear Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the brown felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Cut a small piece of pink felt and use a blanket stitch to attach it to the bear's back. Add eyes, nose and crown details with sequins and beads.
  4. Add small ears and tail details, and finish off with a small loop for hanging.

Lion Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the yellow felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add eyes, nose, whiskers, mane, tail, and ear details with embroidery floss, sequins and beads.
  4. Use embroidery floss to add leg details. Finish off with a small bow and add a loop at the top of the head.

Pig Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the pink felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add eyes, nose, and ear details with embroidery floss, sequins and beads.
  4. Add sequins and beads in a circle to the stomach area. Wrap the orange fleece around the shoulders and stitch into place.
  5. Cut a small circle from felt. With a needle and thread, begin stacking sequin, bead, sequin, bead vertically. Once you are 3 beads high, repeat until you form a crown. Stitch crown into place on top of the pig head and add a small loop to the back to finish.

One Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the red felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add embroidered details at the bottom and sequin and bead details on the one.
  4. Use embroidery floss to add a tassel to the side and finish off with a small loop for hanging.

Mouse Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the white felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add eyes and nose details with embroidery floss, sequins and beads. Add ear details with sequins and beads.
  4. Cut two pieces from the green felt for the vest and whipstitch into place. Add small bow tie and loop at the top to finish off the mouse ornament.

Polar Bear Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the white felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Cut a small piece of green felt and use a blanket stitch to attach it to the bear's back. Add eyes, nose and crown details with sequins and beads.
  4. Add small ears and tail details and finish off with a small loop for hanging.

Popper Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut one from the white felt.
  2. Cut the two outer edges with pinking shears. Fold the fabric in half and whipstitch around the outer edge. Leave both ends open. Stuff the center with Poly-fil and cinch each end closed with a running stitch. Be sure leave excess fabric on either side to give it a popper shape.
  3. Add bead details on the red felt and whipstitch into place. Add sequin and bead details.
  4. Tie off cinched ends with bakers twine and add a small loop for hanging.

S Ornament

  1. Print pattern provided and cut two from the pink felt.
  2. Whipstitch around the outer edges, leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff with Poly-fil and whipstitch closed. Use a chopstick for stuffing where needed.
  3. Add snow cap shapes with the white felt using a whipstitch to attach. Add sequin and bead details.
  4. Finish off with a small loop for hanging.

JOANN HACKS:

  • When you have a curvy shape like an S, stuffing as you go makes it much simpler.

  • Metallic embroidery floss is often easier to stitch with when divided in half.
