DIRECTIONS:

- Use full stocking pattern for charcoal base felt and for locations for all pieced felt. Cut two reverse of stocking pattern from 12"x 18" charcoal felt. Cut one hanger from olive felt, 2"x 8". Fold in thirds lengthwise. Sew close to both edges. Fold in half. Sew to inside of back, top left corner. Place tails of hanger 3/4" in from left side and 1 1/2" down from top edge. Sew in place with a box and x pattern over tails of hanger. Set aside.
- Cut pattern for body. Tape together. Cut one body. See patterns for all other parts. Glue one cuff on RS of top of each small stocking. Let dry. Sew front and back of small stocking RST, 1/8" SA. Turn RSO. Glue star centered on front cuff. Cut one strip of ruby felt for hanger, 1/2"x 6". Fold in half lengthwise. Glue tail ends to the inside of the back of the small stocking, tails about 3/4" down from top edge. Set aside. Sew black and charcoal parts for wings RST, 1/8" SA leaving straight edges open. Turn RSO. Press. Baste opening closed 1/8" from cut edges.
- Layer parts for eyes. Set pins around parts to mark locations. Glue. Glue hat to stocking front lining up top edges. Glue hat band on top of hat lining up bottom edges. Glue body to stocking. Add eyes, beak, scarf and feet. Let dry. Pin wings in place matching raw edges with sides of stocking. Baste in place 1/8" from edges. Pin wings to stocking to keep away from side seams.
- Place front and back of stocking RST. Sew 1/4" SA. Clip curves. Turn RSO.
- Take pins off wings. Loop hanger of small stocking around left wing. Apply a small amount of glue to hold the hanger in place. Apply a small circle of glue behind each of the wing ends and pin to body until glue set.
- Cut 1/2"x 4" strips for hat pom pom, 7 olive, 7 ruby. Cut one 1/2"x 8" ruby as tie. Bundle all the short strips in the middle. Double knot together with the 8" strip. Test fit the pom pom by wrapping the ends of the tie over either side of the front panel of the stocking, in front of the hanger. Trim the ends of the ties to desired length and glue in place. Pin to hold in place until glue has set.
JOANN HACKS:
- Apply a bead of Tacky Glue close to all edges of parts to be glued. Do not apply any glue to sides of scarf, hat and hat brim within 1/2" from sides of stocking. This may make it difficult to sew front and back of stocking together. Apply liberal amounts of glue to center portions of felt parts.
