DIRECTIONS:
- To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above). Cut six pumpkin side pieces of felt using the templates.
- Embroider a design along the edge of each felt side piece, keeping about 1/2" from the edge. Use a running stitch or any other desired stitch to create a pattern.
- When the embroidery is finished, begin sewing the sides together. Place two pieces together, wrong sides together. Sew along one side 1/8" from the edge. Continue adding sides until the each side is connected.
- Sew the first side piece to the last side piece, stopping halfway up the side to allow for stuffing.
- Hand stitch any hole that may remain in the bottom of the pumpkin.
- Stuff the pumpkin firmly with stuffing.
- Hand stitch the stuffing hole.
- To create the stem, cut a piece of the Sandstone felt 2"x 7". Roll the piece starting at one 2" end. Roll tightly and hot glue the end closed.
- Cut out two leaves for one pumpkin from the sandstone felt. Use a running stitch to embroider each leaf with the leaf veins.
- Hot glue the leaves and stem to the top of the pumpkin.

- Drawing out desired embroidery pattern with a water soluble marker before stitching may be helpful.

Easy to follow instructions with adorable results!
I came across this project idea on the JoAnn's website in mid September and immediately fell in love with the soft-yet-classy look of these adorable pumpkins, and made a quick trip to JoAnn's later that week. To my surprise, our small store had all products listed on the project tutorial in stock and available; in addition, I bought a third color (in blue) to make three pumpkins, and a green felt for the leaves in addition to the color suggested in the tutorial for the leaves & stem, as well as additional embroidery thread colors in complimentary colors to these.
By printing the template on a standard 8.5 x 11" piece of paper and cutting the panels on the lines as indicated, you can easily fit the six side panels on one piece of standard-sized felt. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and understand, and I am very much pleased with the results!
Other than the additional colors I chose for my project, I also opted to hand-stitch the stems together and attach those and the leaves to my pumpkins by stitching as well. I'd recommend thinking about that if you so choose, as it was very simple to do and makes the whole project look more finished than the potential of "leaked" glue showing at a seam.
Thank you JoAnns for this fun and adorable project - it was just the crafting therapy I needed!
Blessings,
C
