SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 5yds total of assorted fleece prints & solids (purchase fleece in 1/2yd and 1yd pieces in solids and prints. 1/2yd makes three squares and a total of 30 squares make up the quilt)
  • Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
  • Painter’s tape
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut 15"x 15" squares from each of the fleece fabrics.
  2. Cut a 3"x 3" square out of each corner of the 15" fabric squares.
  3. Cut 1" wide by 3" long strips on all four sides of the fleece square. Repeat for all thirty squares.
  4. Arrange the squares as desired on a large work surface or the floor.
  5. Working in rows, tie the squares together using a square knot.
  6. Use an overhand knot to tie each strip around the outside edge of the blanket.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Start with a new rotary cutter blade.
  • Use the painter’s tape 3" from the edges of all four sides of a square as a handy reminder to show where to stop cutting for uniform strip length.
  • Fleece fabric has more stretch across from selvedge to selvedge than along the selvedge. Line up the squares so all the squares have the grain going in the same direction.
