FLANNEL THROW WITH BLANKET STITCH EDGE
1. Cut selvedge off flannel and trim the cut ends to follow grain line.
2. Turn the edges under 3/8” and sew in place with machine.
3. Divide the floss into 3 strands.
4. Blanket stitch all edges catching the entire hemmed edges in the stitch.

Finished width: 3”
Finished length: 11-3/4” (to fit mug 10-3/4” circumference)
5 sts. And 6 rows = 1"
Cast on 32 sts.
Work 1x1 ribbing: Row 1 (RS) *K1, P1; repeat from * to end of row. Repeat row 1 until 5-1/2” from beginning. End with WS row.
Body of Mitten
Beginning with RS row, work 1” stockinette st; end with WS row.
Shape Thumb Gusset
Row 1: (RS) K 15, Kfb in next two sts, K15.
Row 2: P 16, PM, P2, PM, P 16.
Row 3: K to M, SM, Kfb of next stitch, K to 1 st before M, Kfb of next st, SM, K to end of row.
Row 4: P
Repeat rows 3 & 4 until there are 10 sts between markers.
End with WS row.
Place 16 sts on stitch holder and remove marker.
K across 10 sts of gusset and remove marker.
Place remaining 16 sts on stitch holder.
Work on 10 gusset sts – beginning with P row in stockinette st until thumb measures 2-1/2” from 1st row of gusset. End with WS row.
Next row: K2 tog across row.
Cut yarn leaving tail long enough to draw through remaining sts on needle and to sew seam of thumb.
Using yarn needle, draw tail through remaining sts on needle.
1st row: K 16 sts from 1st holder then 16 sts from 2nd holder. (32)
2nd Row: Beginning with P row, work stockinette st for 3-1/4” from 1st row of hand section. End with WS row. (Note: This is the time to shorten or lengthen mitten to fit chosen mug.)
Next row: K2tog across row. (16)
Next row: P
Next row: K2tog across row. (8)
Cut yarn leaving tail long enough to draw through sts on needle and to sew side seam.
Using yarn needle, remove sts from needle.
Sew thumb seam, closing gap at base of thumb.
Sew mitten side seam.
Fit cozy on mug, overlapping ends for placement then hand sew pair of Velcro® dots to hold cozy in place.
