Fleece and Fur Stockings

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd ea - four fleece prints
  • 1/2 yd ea - four coordinating fabric for lining
  • 1 yd sherpa
  • 1 yd batting
  • 1 yd cording
  • Small amount of Poly-fil® for snowballs
  • Glue
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

    Basic Stocking:
  1. Cut 2 ea from stocking pattern - main fabric, batting and lining. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  2. Cut 1 - 15 1/2"x 12" from sherpa for cuff.
  3. Baste batting to front and back of stocking.
  4. With RST, stitch stocking using a 1/2" seam, leaving top open.
  5. Turn.
  6. With RST, stitch lining of stocking using a 1/2" seam leaving top open and an opening at side for turning.
  7. Cut 1 - 3"x 10" rectangle for hanging loop.
  8. Fold long sides into center and fold again.
  9. Top stitch along both long sides.
  10. Stitch side seam of cuff.
  11. Fold in half with a finished size of 14 1/2"x 6".
  12. Stitch cuff to top of stocking.
  13. Fold hanging loop in half and pin to top of stocking at back seam.
  14. Place and pin lining over stocking and cuff with RST.
  15. Stitch around top.
  16. Pull stocking through the opening of lining.
  17. Stitch opening closed. Insert lining into stocking.

  18. Heal and toe accents:
  19. Cut 2 ea. - heal and toe pattern from sherpa.
  20. Pin to front and back of stocking at heal and toe position (before stitching stocking together).
  21. Stitch in place. Continue to stitch stocking together.

  22. For accent snowballs:
  23. Cut 3 circles of various sizes (3"- 4")from sherpa.
  24. Gather around top of circle, and pull tight. Stuff firmly.
  25. Cut cording desired length and knot one end.
  26. Stick the knotted end into sherpa ball at gathered top and add glue to hold in place.
  27. Hold all cords together and tie knot at top. Stitch to top of stocking at hanging loop.

  28. Bone Stocking:
  29. Cut 1 - main fabric, Cut 2 - batting, Cut 3 - sherpa. (2 sherpa will be used for the lining 1 for the back.
  30. Baste batting to front and back (sherpa) of stocking.
  31. Stitch stocking together, leaving top of bone open
  32. Cut and sew hanging loop as for previous stocking.
  33. Stitch lining together 2 - sherpa pieces - leaving top open and opening on side for turning.
  34. Pin hanging loop at side of stocking.
  35. With RST stitch lining to main stocking at top.
  36. Pull stocking through the lining.
  37. Stitch opening closed in lining.
  38. Insert into stocking.
