SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 3yds Fleece
- 2yds Elastic, 1/4"-1/2"
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Iron & Ironing Board
DIRECTIONS:
- Measure your mattress (a twin size is about 35"x 75"). Then add the depth of your mattress and 4" (for seam allowance) on all four sides. For example, a twin size of 35"x 75" will become approximately a full measurement of approximately 55"x 95" for a 6" depth. This is the size you will cut your fabric into.
- Lay the fabric out on a flat surface and cut it to your measurements. Then at each corner of the fabric, cut out a square 1" greater than your depth (7" square for a 6" depth).
- Starting at one corner, line up and pin the edges together where the right sides of your fabric are facing each other. Then stitch a 1/4" seam. Repeat this step with the remaining corners.
- With your sheet still inside out, fold the outside edges up 1/4" and press with your iron to keep the folding in place. Then fold the edges up again 1/2" and press once more. This will make the elastic casing for the sheet.
- Mark 1" on each side of the corner seams with a pin. These pins mark where you need to leave an opening as you stitch your casing (in order to insert the elastic). Start at one pin and edge stitch your casing while making the corner openings.
- Cut four 15" strips of elastic. Then, starting at one corner, thread the elastic through the casing and to the other corner opening. Pin the ends place. When all strips of elastic are threaded through, stitch over the elastic ends to secure. Finally, stitch the corner openings closed.
