SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
DIRECTIONS:
JOANN HACKS:
- 1 color fleece fabric for blanket base
- 6 colors fleece fabric for stripes
- Basic sewing supplies
- Rotary cutter & mat
DIRECTIONS:
- Cut fleece 48"x 48" square to be used as the blanket base.
- Using rotary cutter and mat, cut 10 strips of fleece 2"x 60" for the stripes.
- For blanket base, turn under 1/2" on all sides and stitch. Turn under another 1" on all sides to finish edges of the blanket, this will make a 45"x 45" square.
- Using a basting stitch, sew down the center of each strip of fleece leaving a long tail of thread to gather fabric. Knot thread at one end of strip.
- At the other end of the strip, separate thread and gently pull to gather fabric.
- Select first color and pin to blanket base 3" from center of strip to edge of blanket. Pin additional strips to blanket base 4" from center of strip to center of next strip. Readjust gathering as you pin for ruffled detail by gently pulling threads. (Some of the fabric may be cut off once the stripe has been sewn onto the blanket.) Lay out all stripes and pin. Sew down middle of each strip to secure to blanket. Pull basting threads when you are finished.
JOANN HACKS:
- Choose color pattern of stripes before pinning to base.

Use a Go strip cutter
You can make this quickly if you have access to a GO cutter with a 2” strip die. That will cut your ruffle strips accurately in no time.

Super cute but more complicated than needed.
Why not use the strips themselves to gather? Skip the basting and just tug the stretchy strips a bit while you are sewing them down to the base. Saves thread and time.

Takes more time than you think.
I agree with another poster, takes longer than stated. But it was great way to use leftover fleece. I changed the size, made it 48" x 60".

Nice project but VERY time consuming!
I can hardly believe they called this intermediate, which it is, but saying it takes 1-2 hours is a joke. I am a very experienced sewer and it took me that long just to cut out the base and strips accurately. Nothing is that difficult but precision is required in cutting, measuring and marking placement of the strips on the base fleece. It turned out very cute but plan TIME!
