SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Fleece Seatbelt Pillow Template
- Fleece, 1/2 yd_x000B_Felt, various colors
- Fiber Fill
- 3/4" wide Hook and Loop Tape, 1 ft
- Embroidery thread and needle, for mouth
- Basic sewing supplies
- Fabric glue, optional
DIRECTIONS:
- To find the downloadable template click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.
- Cut out pieces according to the Fleece Seatbelt Pillow Template.
- Place and pin Tummy Felt under the cut-out oval in the Front Bottom piece and topstitch around the oval. Trim the raw fleece edge to the stitching with scissors.
- Match the curved edges of the Front Top and Front Bottom. Slide the top edge under the bottom edge. Topstitch along the curve, then trim the raw fleece edge to the stitching with scissors.
- Place the eye circles, cheek circles, tummy circles, and teeth triangles into place and topstitch around their edges.
- Embroider a mouth along the curved fleece edge, from cheek circle to cheek circle.
- Set top body aside.
- Create arms - match arms right sides together and sew, leaving the straight edge open. Clip small triangles into the seam allowance every 1/4" at the curves to help them lay flat. Turn right side out and stuff with Fiber Fill.
- Baste edges closed and set aside.
- Create the Hook and Loop straps - Place two 3" long strips of hook tape side by side, centered 1 inch down from the Fold line. Sew down the center of the two hook tapes with a zigzag stitch, then use a straight stitch around the edges of the hook tape.
- Repeat for the two 3" long strips of loop tape on the other strap material.
- Fold your 4"x 12" fabric strips right sides together along the Fold line, matching the 4" edges together. Sew down the 6" edges, leave the open 4" edge open. Turn right side out and topstitch around all edges.
- Place and pin the straps on top of the Back body piece - match the hook and loop tape together and then line up the raw edges of the hook and loop straps with the raw edges of the Back body, about an inch down from the neck area. Baste along the two raw edges of the straps.
- Place and pin the arms on top of the Top body piece - line up the raw edges of the arms with the raw edges of he Top body. The arms should be resting on top of the Top body. Baste edges into place.
- Place Top body and Bottom body, right sides together. Arms and straps swill be sandwiched in between the two layers. Sew all the way around, leaving a 3" opening in between the legs at the bottom. Clip small triangles into the seam allowance every 1/4" at the curves to help them lay flat. Turn right side out and hand stich the opening closed.
JOANN HACKS:
- Use a dab of Fabric Glue to set the felt eyes, teeth, and tummy spots into place while topstitching.
