DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable pattern click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.Use 1/4" seam allowance for the entire project.
- Print out and assemble the stocking pattern.
- For the lining pieces you will need to add 3" to the top of the pattern.
- For the outer stocking pieces you will need to add 1 1/2" to the top of the pattern.
- Pin pattern to fabric and lining and cut out 2 stockings for each. Total of 4. (Remember to add the necessary length for each when you cut).
- Cut out (1) 8"x 2 1/2" strip for the looped hanger.
- Use the assembled stocking pattern and attached pattern document for the patches.
- Cut out (2) of the toe patches and (2) of the heel patches.
- On the right sides of the fabric, pin the toe and heel patches onto the stocking pieces.
- Sew around the edges of the patches with a blanket stitch on your machine. You will only need to sew around the edges that will be seen. The outer toe and back of heel will get sewn into the side of the stocking.
- Line up the 2 outer stocking pieces (with the patches) with the right sides together and pin.
- Sew around the perimeter of the stocking, making sure to leave the top portion open and catch the patch pieces as you go.
- Turn right side out.
- Repeat with the lining pieces but leave a 1" opening along the outer edge where the hanger loop will sit. It will be approx. 1" down from the edge of the stocking.
- Construct the hanger by collecting the previously cut strip.
- Fold the strip in half lengthwise with the right sides together and straight stitch down the edge.
- Flip the tube right side out.
- Fold the tube in half to create a loop and tuck it into the 1" opening you left in your lining.
- Line up the raw edges together and stitch the hanger in place.
- With the lining still wrong side out, fold over the top edge approx. 1/4" and straight stitch down.
- Drop the lining inside the actual stocking.
- Fold the lining over the edge so that it is visible, approx. 1.5" over. Pin in place.
- Follow the previous stitch line and sew around the edge to attach the lining to the stocking.
- Create your desired pony bead detail using beads, letters, bells, etc. and slide it onto an elastic cord.
- Hand tack/sew the ends of elastic into the side seams between the lining and the stocking. (you can also tuck this into the cuff as you stitch the lining to the stocking in the previous step and sew it all together at once).
JOANN HACKS:
- Make sure to line up the patches as you sew them into the stocking. You will want them to match up perfectly so it looks like one complete patch around the toe and heel.
- The fleece will be very thick in some places when you sew several layers together. Release the tension in your machine to make it easier.
