SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 3-4 Foam Sheets (in shades of green & teal)
- 1 Yellow Gold Foam Sheet
- X-Acto Blade
- Cutting Mat
- Hot Glue Gun/Glue Gun Sticks
- Beads
- Pom Poms
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Dowel Rod (5/8)
- 4" Square Unfinished Wood Plaque Base
- Medium Flat Brush
- Detail Brush
- Acrylic Paint (2 colors)
- Water and Paper Towels for Cleanup
DIRECTIONS:
- Use a ruler to find the center point on the wood plaque. Add a spot of hot glue to the center and place the dowel into the glue pressing and holding firmly until it cools. Once the glue cools add a line of glue around the dowel where it meets the base for added stability.
- Once the glue is cooled completely, paint the base and the dowel with a flat brush then add in detail with a coordinating color. Apply additional coats as needed. Set aside to dry.
- Cut the green & teal foam sheets into 1/2" by 12" strips, repeat until you have an assortment of strips. Cut each 12" strip into four 3" strips. Add a dab of glue to the inside end of one strip and fold the ends together to create a tear drop shape. It will take a good amount of tear drops to make a completed tree so creating them before hand will make assembly smoother.
- Glue the tear drop foam shapes to the dowel starting 2-3" from the bottom of the dowel. Layer them on top of each other and rotate the direction of the tear drops to add dimension.
- Work up the dowel until you reach the top. Stack more teardrops at the bottom and less as you move up. At the top glue one teardrop pointed up as the topper.
- For the star on top create 4 yellow/gold tear drops with four 1/2" by 3" strips. Glue them so that they are all four pointed out.
- Affix the star to the top by cutting a slit into the tear drop on the top of the tree and sliding on the star. Glue to secure in place.
- Once the shape of the tree is complete add beads and/or pom poms as ornaments all around the tree.
JOANN HACKS:
- Apply small dabs of hot glue as to not have glue smearing or showing. Lightly hold the glued foam for a few seconds to cool before releasing so that the shape holds.
- Start at the bottom of the tree and build out then up to create the trees shape. Fill in as needed.
