SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Simplicity 8528
- Wool for Blazer + Pants
- (2) Scrap Twill or Wool Fabric 3"x 3"
- Embroidery thread
- Hand sewing needles
- Fabric scissors
- Tailors chalk
DIRECTIONS:
- After the suit is completed, following pattern instructions, fit the garment to take measurements to mark the placement for rough cutting the pant and blazer.
- Lightly mark the design lines with tailor chalk for the rough cut, or mark with hand basting stitches. The design should be triangles for the "torn edges".
- Take the fabric scissors and carefully cut the design lines for the rough cuts on the pant and blazer.
- On the blazer, fit the garment to take measurements for placement for the arm patches.
- Lightly mark the placement lines on the blazer with tailor chalk for the patches, or mark with hand basting stitches.
- Apply the scrap fabric patches to the marked placement by large stitches with embroidery thread. The hand stitches should have a "saddle stitch" effect and should be 1/4" from the edge of the patch.
- Carefully fray and rough the edges of the patch, giving it a distressed finish.
JOANN HACKS:
- Use a bright or off-color embroidery thread for the hand stitching on the patches.
- For a more distressed rough cut, rub your fingers on the edges and lightly pull threads to break up the fibers of the hem.
