SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Embroidery floss
  • Beads
  • Craft needle to fit through beads
  • Lanyard clip
  • Scissors
  • Tape

DIRECTIONS:

  1. To determine the length needed to cut your embroidery floss strands, measure how long you want your lanyard and multiply by 5.
  2. Cut 5 strands and tie them together with an overhand knot at one end.
  3. Tape the knot to a table.
  4. The way you make the ridged, woven looking surface of a friendship bracelet is by making lots of small knots. First you need to decide what order you want your strands to be in. This will determine the order of the color of your rows. If you want thick stripes, place the same strand colors next to each other. Or you can mirror the colors from side to side.
  5. Once they're in order, grab the first two strands. The strand farthest to the left is going to create your first row. You'll be knotting it around the other strands of floss/yarn. Take the first strand and tie it around the second strand, making sure you go over the second strand. Push the knot up towards your overhand knot. Do this twice on each strand, so that you have made 2 knots on each strand. Continue with this same strand and make 2 knots over each strand until you reach the last strand on the right. Then start again from the left strand and knot twice across all the strands.
  6. Once you have the desired length, make another overhand knot at the end and attach the lanyard clip.
  7. Tie both sides to clip on each side of the lanyard to clip a mask loop to each end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Idea Joann Fabric! I’m not sure why the other two reviewers are SO whiny in the above reviews....they are friendship bracelets that you tie onto clips! I’m not sorry, but we never had “instructional videos” or the internet when I was growing up and kids and teens of all ages had no problem figuring out how to make these. Stop complaining and figure it out! Thanks for the great idea, Joann Fabric!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What on earth??? Beads? The supply list calls for beads. Where do the beads come in? According to the completely confusing instructions, this project is all knots made with embroidery thread. No idea how that works because there are no illustrations or even close-up photos of the finished project. This is a ridiculous waste of time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty cut and dry instructions I’m not the brightest crayon in the box but I figured it out pretty easily. Why are the other reviewers so bitter. They should be grateful that they offered this for free! Like getting something you don’t like for Christmas, it’s a gift. Smile and say thanks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What? I am an experienced craftswoman, and I have never read instructions this badly written. It appears to assume a working knowledge of the braiding or knitting technique used. If you were a tweenie in the early 2000's when friendship bracelets were all the rage, you can make these. Any other humans are outta luck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's another failed instructional project...Oh No. Once again, Joann's has succeeded in confusing the reader on how to make a project by the worst instructions possible. No video, no graphics, no drawings...Who writes these instructions??? Please Joann's do yourself a favor and get a professional crafts person who knows how to write, explain and show how to MAKE it!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Explanation Ever I thought I would try this. Read the instructions and reread them. Those are the worst instructions ever. Include a drawing possibly?
