NOTES:
5 granny squares are made separately and then sewn together.
Granny squares are worked in joined rnds with RS always facing you.
Join last st of each rnd to first st with a sl st.
Do not turn at the beg of rnds.
Granny square rnds are worked with 3 different yarn colors.
To change yarn color, fasten off old color and join new color as instructed.
When working with yarn A, work with a single strand.
When working with yarn B or C, work with 2 strands held together.
Ties and a border are worked directly onto Headband.
GRANNY SQUARES:(Make 5)
NOTE:
Place yarn colors as desired in your squares.
With first color of your choice, ch 4; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 7 dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - you will have 8 dc in this rnd.
Fasten off.
Rnd 2: From RS, join 2nd color with sl st in any sp between sts, ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same sp (first corner made), 2 dc in next sp between sts, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next sp between sts (corner made), 2 dc in next sp between sts; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - 24 dc and 4 corner ch-1 sps (Three 2-dc groups along each of 4 sides between corner ch-1 sps).
Fasten off.
Rnd 3: From RS, join 3rd color with sl st in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each of next 2 sps between 2-dc groups, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each of next 2 sps between 2-dc groups; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - Four 2-dc groups along each of 4 sides between corner ch-1 sps.
Fasten off.
Rnd 4: From RS, join first color with sl st in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each of next 3 sps between 2-dc groups, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner ch-1 sp, 2 dc in each of next 3 sps between 2-dc groups; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch-3 - Five 2-dc groups along each of 4 sides between corner ch-1 sps.
Do not fasten off.
Rnd 5: Continue with first color, ch 1, sc in same st as joining sl st, sc in next st, * (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch-1 sp, sc in each st to next corner ch-1 sp; rep from * 2 more times, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch-1 sp, sc in each st to end of rnd; join with sl st in first sc - 12 sc along each of 4 sides between corner ch-1 sps.
Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Sew squares into a strip.
BORDER & TIES:
With 2 strands of C held together, make a chain about 12" for first tie.
Do not fasten off.
From RS, working along one long edge of strip, sc in corner ch-1 sp of first square, * sc in each st to next seam between squares, hdc in seam; rep from * across to last square, sc in each st along edge of last square, sc in corner ch-1 sp; make a chain about 12" for 2nd tie.
Fasten off.
Rep along other long edge of strip.
Weave in ends.
