- Take the ruler & pencil and measure 1" inward from each edge. Draw a straight line on each side to create a smaller 8"x 8" square in the center.
- Make a 2"x 2" grid in this square.
- Use this painting to create the triangles that create the heart shape and the alternating triangles in the center of the heart shape. Draw as lightly as possible.
- Squeeze out 1/2 tsp of cadmium-free red medium.
- Dip the flat brush into the Red and follow the painting to fill in 4 triangles (A).
- Mix about 1/4 tsp red med with 1/4 tsp titanium white to create the next slightly lighter value color and paint into the corresponding 2 triangles (B).
- Squeeze out about 1/2 tsp cadmium-free red light and Mix in about 1/4 tsp titanium white. Adjust with the white until it's slightly lighter in value than color (B). This mix is color (C).
- Fill in the 3 corresponding triangles with this color (C).
- Go back to the mixture made for (B) and add about 1/4 tsp of titanium white to create a lighter value color (D).
- Fill in the 2 corresponding triangles with color (D).
- Add about 1/4 tsp more to the (D) color to create the lightest value red (E).
- Fill in the 5 corresponding triangles with color (E).
- The last color is the iridescent bright gold. Squeeze out about 1/4 tsp of this color and fill in the remaining 4 triangles (F).
- Allow the painting to dry for 10-15 minutes or so. Then, take an eraser and gently erase any remaining pencil marks. Take care not to accidentally smear the color while erasing.
- Then, squeeze out about 3/4 tsp of titanium white and use the 1" paddle brush to paint over the remaining white of the canvas. This will clean up any residual pencil marks and brighten the white of the canvas.
- Allow to dry.
