SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Glowforge 3d printer
  • Computer with internet access
  • Glowforge app OR another design program (like Photoshop or Google draw)
  • Puzzle material like wood, cardboard or acyclic
  • Glue

DIRECTIONS:

  1. First pick out the material you would like to use for the puzzle. In this video we are using wood and acrylic. Then choose the design you'd like to use. A great place to look, if not using our app, is online on the noun project. Here you can search for just about anything and save it as a pdf, png or svg .

  2. Once you've selected an image, save it as a PDF, GIF or Jpeg to later place into the software.
  3. Turn on your Glowforge and load in the material for the base of the puzzle.
  4. Open the Glowforge app, and select the shapes button. Choose the “frame" or shape of your puzzle. We chose a rounded rectangle. If using Google Draw, do the same thing using the shape button. We also added some fun text by adding another shape and typing text inside the box.

  5. If you are using Google draw or any other design software, save your file to bring over to the Glowforge app. Select “add artwork" and upload your file. This should have your puzzle shape. Next, upload the art file you saved in step 2. If you are doing the design work in the app already, you can skip this step. You can also use any of the art found in our app with our premium subscription.

  6. Now resize the puzzle shape by clicking on it and dragging it larger or smaller.
  7. First, print the base of the puzzle, which will be the large square shape, setting the design/art to ignore.
  8. Next, print the square shape again, this time cutting out the image pieces.
  9. Then, glue the top layer to the bottom layer.
  10. If you're satisfied with the cut out pieces the being the same color as the puzzle top, you can peel the pieces and either paint them, or start playing with your puzzle.

  11. If you would rather print the pieces in colored acrylic, as shown in the video, print the image again. These pieces can now be peeled and used for the puzzle.
