SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1 yard, 44" wide fabric (will need 1.5" yards of shorter fabrics)
- Thread
- 3 yards 1/2" double-fold bias tape
- 40", 1" wide polyester webbing for bag strap
- Fabric pen or pencil
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Pattern pieces
DIRECTIONS:
- Fold fabric vertically (18"x 44" when folded). Lay down side panel pattern along fold. Trace and cut 2 pieces. Lay down gusset pattern, trace and cut.
- Fold top edges of side panels over 1" and stitch.
- Fold and pin short edges of gusset over 1".
- Pin one side panel piece along the long edge of gusset piece, wrong sides together. (Place pins a few inches from edge to allow room for pinning on bias tape.)
- Pin bias tape around edge of side panel and gusset. Stitch together.
- Repeat for other side panel.
- Cut webbing into (2) 20" lengths. Pin in place on inside edge of bag. Stitch to bag in 2 horizontal lines. Backstitch each line at least once for extra strength.
JOANN HACKS:
- Wide double-sided bias tape is easier to attach and allows for a wider stitching margin. A wider stitching margin makes the bag more secure and allows for heavier loads.
