Witch Hat and Ghost Pillow

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd printed fleece fabric (witch hat pillow)
  • 1/4 yd solid fleece fabric (witch hat pillow)
  • 1/8 yd black fleece fabric (ghost pillow)
  • 1/4 yd grey fleece fabric (ghost pillow)
  • 1/2 yd white fleece fabric (ghost pillow)
  • 20 oz. bag of Poly-Fil (will fill both pillows)
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Ghost and witch hat templates (seam allowance indicated on templates)

DIRECTIONS:

For witch hat pillow:

  1. Cut 2 “hat" shapes out of printed fleece and 2 “belt" shapes out of solid fleece.
  2. Place belt onto location indicated in template and edgestitch into place on RHS of “hat"
  3. Stitch hats RST, leaving a 3" hole for turning and filling.
  4. Turn piece right-side out and fill with Poly-Fil. Slipstitch small hole closed.

For ghost pillow:

  1. Cut 2 ghost bodies out of white, 2 ear pieces and 2 face pieces out of grey, and 2 eyes and 1 mouth out of black.
  2. Place WS of ghost bodies over RS of ears and face pieces, overlapping as indicated on template. Topstitch onto body where white and grey overlap.
  3. Place eyes onto RS of ghost body where indicated on template and topstitch into place.
  4. Sew faces RST and press seam open. Place mouth on center of seam in location indicated on template and topstitch into place
  5. Continue sewing around the rest of the pillow, leaving 3" hole for turning and stuffing.
  6. Turn piece right-side out and stuff with Poly-Fil. Slipstitch small hole closed.

For pumpkin pillow:

  1. Cut 2 pumpkin shapes using template (cut 2 on fold).
  2. Cut a 36"x2" strip out of piping flannel (will have to piece). Press in half WST, with long-sides touching. Slide piping filler into fold and baste close to piping with zipper foot.
  3. Apply piping to outer edge of one pumpkin shape, stopping 2" before start of piping. Cut piping 4" longer than what would be used to close the gap. Open longer end of piping 4". Trim filler to length needed to close gap in piping. Fold longer length in half and lay over shorter length of piping, to enclose. Finish sewing piping to edge.
  4. Sew piped pumpkin to other pumpkin piece RST, leaving 3" hole for turning. Turn piece right-side out and stuff with Poly-Fil. Slipstitch turning hole closed.

Halloween Bunting Instructions (approximately 7" tall, 50" in length)

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd solid fleece for backing
  • 1/2 yd printed fleece with Halloween icons
  • 1/4 yd fleece each in (4) solid colors
  • 2 yds pom-pom trim (for top)
  • 1 yd large pom-pom trim (for bottom)
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Bunting template (1/2" seam allowance included)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using bunting template, cut:
  2. 10 backings
  3. 1 of each solid color
  4. 6 of printed fabric, centering each bunting piece onto Halloween icon
  5. Sew solid bunting to backing RST, leaving top open. Trim seam allowance to a scant 1/4", turn pieces right-side out and press well.
  6. Baste pom-pom trim to bottom points of printed bunting. Stop 1/2" before point and clip into trim to pivot neatly around corner.
  7. Sew printed bunting to backing RST, leaving top open. Trim seam allowance to a scant 1/4", turn pieces right-side out and press well.
  8. Arrange bunting pieces side-to-side in this order: 1 solid, 2 printed, 1 solid, 2 printed, 1 solid, 2 printed, 1 solid.
  9. Lay pom-pom trim over raw edges of top bunting and topstitch into place, finishing edge. Leave 2" excess at beginning and end of bunting for hanging.

Envelope Pillow Instructions (14"x20"pom-pom, 16"flanged, 18"piped)

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd printed fleece fabric (14"x20" pillow)
  • 2 yds pom-pom trim (14"x20" pillow)
  • 1/2 yd solid fleece fabric (16" pillow)
  • 1/2 yd printed fleece fabric (16" pillow trim)
  • 1 yd main fleece (18"pillow)
  • 1/4 yd coordinating fleece (18" pillow trim)
  • (2) 20oz bags of Poly-Fil (will fill all 3 pillows) OR pre-made pillow forms
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

For 14" x 20" pom-pom pillow (1/2" seam allowance included):

  1. Cut (1) 15"x21 rectangle and (2) 15"x14 ½" rectangles out of patterned fleece
  2. Finish one 14 1/2" side of each smaller rectangle by folding over ¾" toward the wrong side and topstitching 1/2" from the folded edge.
  3. Overlap finished edges of smaller rectangles, right-side to wrong-side to create envelope backing that is 21" wide and baste into place.
  4. Baste trim around edges of the RS of pillow “front" (pom-poms facing toward the center of the pillow).
  5. For corners, stop basting 1/2" before corner, clip into trim, then turn trim around corner.
  6. Sew pillow front and back RST around all edges. Turn piece right-side out and fill with Poly-Fil or pillow form.

For 16" flanged pillow (1/2" seam allowance included):

  1. Cut (1) 17" square and (2) 17"x13" rectangles out of solid fabric. Cut 160" of 3" wide trim out of patterned fabric (will have to do some piecing).
  2. Finish on 13" side of each rectangle by folding over ¾" toward the wrong side and topstitching 1/2" from the folded edge.
  3. Overlap finished edges of smaller rectangles, right-side to wrong-side to create envelope backing that is 17" wide square and baste into place.
  4. Sew 3" trim RST around edges of “front" and “back" pillow pieces with 1/2" seam allowance, mitering corners as you go. Press seams open.
  5. Sew front and back RST, matching mitered corners. Turn piece right-side out and press well. Stitch in ditch on front seam where trim meets pillow to secure 2" flange.
  6. Turn piece right-side out and fill with Poly-Fil or pillow form.

For 18" piped pillow (1/2" seam allowance included):

  1. Cut (1) 19" square and (2) 19"x14" rectangles out of main fabric. Cut 80" of 2" wide trim out of coordinating fabric (will have to piece together).
  2. Finish one 14" side of each smaller rectangle by folding over 3/4" toward the wrong side and topstitching 1/2" from the folded edge.
  3. Overlap finished edges of smaller rectangles, right-side to wrong-side to create envelope backing that is 19" wide square and baste into place.
  4. Fold trim in half, WST, matching long ends and lightly press. Apply trim to right side of 19" rectangle, mitering corners as you sew. Overlap start and end trim for a neat finish.
  5. Sew pillow front and back RST around all edges. Turn piece right-side out and fill with Poly-Fil or pillow form.

Halloween Fleece Quilt Instructions (39"x70")

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 yds solid fleece for backing
  • 1 3/4 yd lavender fleece print (for topper)
  • 1/2 yd gray fleece (for topper)
  • 1/2 yd dark gray printed fleece (for topper)
  • 6 1/8 yds of large pom-pom trim
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut (1) 31" x 40" rectangle and (1) 21" x 40" rectangles out of lavender print, (1) 13"x40" rectangle out of gray fleece and (1) 11"x40" rectangle out of dark gray printed fleece. Cut (1) 71"x40" rectangle out of black fleece for backing. 1/2" seam allowance is included.
  2. Sew 40" sides of rectangles together to create one large rectangle in this order: 31" lavender, gray fleece, dark gray fleece, 21" lavender.
  3. Press seams open and topstitch 1/4" on each side of seam.
  4. Baste pom-pom trim to the all edges of pieced topper (with pom-poms toward the center of quilt). Stop sewing 1/2" before each corner, clip into trim, then pivot corner for a neat finish.
  5. Sew quilt topper to quilt backing RST, leaving 5" hole for turning. Turn piece right-side out and press well. Slipstitch small hole closed. Topstitch 1/4" around all edges of quilt to finish.
