You can use it to make soups, steam vegetables, sauté, make rice and hot cereal. I’ve made broccoli and cauliflower plenty of times on the stove in a kettle. It turns out ok. I never knew how much better it could be until using this. I just added water to the bottom then put the tray on top and added my vegetables and butter. Then it cooked for 20 minutes. It turned out perfect. I am so amazed by this cooker. You can put a whole meal in it and let it cook on high or low depending on when you want it done. It will turn out amazing. All you have to do is the prep to add the food. It is several devices in one. It doesn’t take up much room at all. It comes with a cup and spoon. It’s so easy to clean out.

It came out like oatmeal. Viewing other recipes online I found this machine limited in what it can cook. I found that most recipes call for a manual and auto pressure relief valve which this unt does not have.

First I used the delay feature to cook steel cut oats and with the non stick coating the steel cut oats turned out creamy and did not stick. The second thing I cooked was white rice to go with a stir fry that I made and the rice turned out perfect. I am eager to try more recipes in this multi cooker. It is very easy to use and clean.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was all atwitter when I ordered this item, thinking I would be able to do LOTS of different things with it. I'm not sure if my expectations were just too high or what but this turns out to be a glorified rice/oatmeal cooker and unfortunately, it won't get much use for just those purposes. As for the steaming feature, I don't steam very many things and when I do, I generally use my double decker steamer pan on the stovetop for that purpose. It's a nice appliance but not something I'm going to get much use out of.

All the instructions that are included thoroughly go step by step for every function. Steamer basket, measuring cup, & serving spoon are all included. I started out simple and made rice for orange chicken, and it cooked it perfectly. No crunch at all (that’s an issue I have on the stove). The exterior of the unit doesn’t get hot to the touch either, which is great for when kids want to help. I’ve gone more advanced and have made a soup too, and all the buttons and functions are easy to navigate and make starting a batch super simple. Has a nice size screen as well. And when all is said and done it’s such an easy appliance to clean. This multi cooker is a fantastic appliance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Digital Multi cooker with glass lid review [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The 4.5 qt digital multi cooker is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. It's a good size for a single person. It is easy to use. There are pre-set buttons on the menu for things like cooking rice, making soup or hot cereal, and steaming vegetables. I especially like that it has a glass lid so that I can see how things are coming along as the food cooks. I can easily see the number of minutes left until the food is done; the number is in red. The lines for how much water to add for rice are clearly marked. I also really like that it has handles I can use to easily lift the inner pot out of the base! I have used it so far to make goulash, to cook different kinds of rice, and to steam vegetables. The steamed vegetables came out perfect - not underdone or mushy - in 15 minutes once the water heated up. The only draw back, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars, is that the holes in the steamer basket are too big. Some of the green beans I was steaming fell through the holes into the water below. It's okay for vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, but French green beans will definitely fall through the basket and cook in the water below.

We did use it to prepare sweet potatoes and boneless pork chops. Although there were few directions to operate the multi cooker, we were able to prepare both the pork and the sweet potatoes sans disaster. The sweet potatoes steamed for 20 minutes and then we sauted the pork chops for 2-3 minutes on each side. A teriyaki, brown sugar marinade helped to make the chops moist and tender. Sorry there are no pics or videos. Try to do some for the next post.

The 4.5qt nonstick pot is the perfect size for family meals, or cooking for one. It can cook up to 10 cups of uncooked rice and even includes an accurate rice measuring cup, a rice paddle and a steaming basket. I've used mine for everything from cooking rice to making homemade vegetable soup and pot roasts. The glass lid makes it easy to check on food while it's cooking without losing heat. Then when you're done, put the removable, dishwasher safe nonstick pot into the dishwasher for easy clean-up!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Requires a learning curve [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have made a few things, but not sure I really have the hang of it yet. I don't make rice and suspect it might be a good choice if you like rice. I have steamed a few vegetables and used the crock pot function. I unfortunately thought it would have a pressure cooker function, but this multi cooker doesn't. I would say my items turned out all right, but I could make items quicker than the steamer in other ways and I prefer more settings on a crock pot than just high and low. I found the directions for the unit quite lacking. It just gives basic info and it was difficult for me to figure out certain things. I would prefer directions listed for each function and in list form not stuck in a paragraph. I checked various websites, but not really too helpful on this item either. I follow the basic directions on setting time for certain functions, but can't seem to get that to work for me. It would be helpful if recipes or a list of projected times for certain common items cooked would be included. I also don't like how the electronics are set up. I wish you just pushed a button for each function instead of having to press the menu button to select the function. So overall I would say if you like figuring out new appliances and just want one item to do several things, this might be right for you. Maybe if I use this more, I will come to like it for certain items I cook, but unfortunately so far it is not a good fit for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Capable Multi Cooker [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was in the market for a multi cooker, and after much research settled on the 'Hamilton Beach 4.5 QT Multi Cooker with Glass Lid'. I made my choice for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as the title reveals, this multi cooker has a 'glass lid'. Most of the ones I came across in my research did not. This feature is important to me in that I like to see how my meal is coming along without having to open up the cooker. It just looses too much heat that way. Secondly, I wanted a cooker that had a number of functions... without being an overwhelming amount. A few I looked at had settings for 'porridge' and such. I mean, when was the last time anyone made a batch of porridge?!? This Hamilton Beach model seemed to fit the bill. I received my Hamilton Beach 4.5 Quart Multi Cooker with Glass Lid and was immediately impressed. Firstly, I loved the fact that the lid was attached and on a spring hinge. I didn't have to worry about it getting broken or misplaced...or my cats getting into my 'cooking creation'. Secondly,I liked the removable non-stick pot. A number of the cookers I researched came with stainless steel pots. I know they are nice, but they can be a bear to clean. And third, I found the attached swing-away handle to be a nice feature. It will come in very handy in taking a batch of my meatballs over for Thanksgiving dinner. I was extremely anxious to try out my new Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi Cooker with Glass Lid. I was in the mood for chili and settled on making some in it. Rather than dirty a fry pan to brown my meat, I decided to use the 'Saute' feature on the multi cooker to do just that. I found the controls to be a little confusing having to refer to the directions a couple of times to figure it out. But after I did, things were fine. My meat browned nicely as you can see by the attached photo. I easily drained the meat using the handles built into the removable pot. Very nice feature. It was now time to load all the ingredients in the pot and get my chili cooking. I found that I could really load it up. The size of the pot is deceiving when you first look at it. But it easily held a full batch of chili. I set the 'Slow Cooker-Low' function for 8 hours and let it go. After cooking was complete, it was time to give it the 'taste test'. I must admit, it was the best batch of chili I had made in a long time. The flavor of the seasonings was nicely infused in the meat and it was nice and hot....just like I like it. I was very happy with how my Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi Cooker performed. And cleanup was a breeze. (I was worried about cleaning the glass lid being it wasn't detachable, but not a problem. It cleanup up easily.) All in all, I can highly recommend the Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi cooker. As my title suggests, it's a very capable unit that has many useful functions and works well. The control set is a little hard to figure out, but one you do, you'll be on your way to making some great meals. Five stars!

It's amazing how well all the functions work. Rice is fluffy and perfectly cooked. The steamer gave me perfectly cooked broccoli.

This cooker takes the place of several cooking items. I always have a mess to clean up on my stove...with the Multi all is contained...easy to clean. The settings confused me at first. Hold down the menu button until it reaches your selection...the rest is easy, add food plus right amount of water or sauce for the amount you are making. I learned not to add too much water or sauce (it will take longer to cook). I like the fact you can cook or steam such a variety: meats, seafood, rolls, rice, veggies, cereals etc. To start I cooked brown rice then added rice to stuffed pepper ingredients-placed in cooker then added sauce. Next using steamer basket cooked fresh carrots & finally frozen mixed veggies. All came out so tasty and tender with a little salt & butter. This cooker is so smart..it will let you know if water is needed. The warm feature is automatic when food is done. Being a family of two, cooking can be a challenge to make the right amount. With this cooker I can make small batches, or large for company or going to a potluck. The carrying handle is strong and makes transporting easy. Another important factor is that the lid opens by simply pressing the button! How great is that? I would definitely recommend this product.

The design is sleek and modern consisting of black and silver with easy to use digital buttons. The lid is one of my favorite parts with an easy to push button for an easy to use open and close function. This amazing cooker is a rice cooker, steamer, slow cooker and much more with an easy to use digital face with pre programmed buttons. It comes with everything you need and the inside is easy to remove for easy cleanup. I was very impressed with the ease of cooking a roast for supper along with the easy cleanup. I can't wait for cooler weather to try chili next.

My favorite is all the digital buttons when I made soup the other night you just push the soup selection. It makes cooking a breeze. Perfect size to sit on my counter and it's features make it easy. It comes with instructions but was so easy to use I didn't have to keep looking at them I did it without. The steaming tray makes my vegetables come out crisp. When I made rice it was perfect every time. This is a great item to add to your kitchen.

Whatever you want to cook, just throw it in, set it and go about your day. I am very impressed at how all of the rice gets cooked evenly, and I can saute in it as well. We eat alot of oatmeal in winter as well this multi cooker I will be able.toake enough for everyone at the same time. Whenever I'm ready to clean it, I just pull it out and toss it in the dishwasher, it's that easy. This is definitely my go to cooking appliance!

The rice I cooked in the cooker came out very fluffy. The non-stick liner was easy to clean and the steamer tray was a nice addition for rinsing the rice and I also used it to steam some veggies while the rice was cooking. I like the feature of keeping the rice warm after it finishes cooking while I prepare the rest of the meal or to serve seconds with warm rice. I also made broccoli cheese soup in the cooker. It turned out well and I didn't have the problem of the soup sticking on the bottom of the pan as it usually did before because of the non-stick liner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfect [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this mainly as a rice cooker and then the extra stuff it can go is an added bonus. So far we’ve only used it for cooking rice. I think there is a slight learning curve with it but the directions were clear enough to use right away. I say learning curve because when we’ve made rice it’s come out a little dry, so I need to learn how to get a little more moisture in there. We normally cook rice on the stove but you have to watch it and it’s easy to end up distracted and ruining it. With this we just set it and leave it alone. It does the rest. Definitely makes cooking easier. Plus is clears up a spot on the stove. You’re also able to cook a lot of rice in this. Definitely a great size. I am happy we have this and it’s definitely something we will use over and over again.

We began with the sauté feature to brown chicken and then used the soup feature to produce a wonderful soup with no fear of boil over or running dry. The other features also worked well without fuss or worry. The best feature of this muti cooker is that it does not heat up the kitchen which here in the Deep South is most important.
