Hammock Cushion with Cording and Tufts

Advanced Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 54" home decor or outdoor fabric, 6 1/2yds
  • 5/8yd contrasting fabric for cording
  • 3/8" cording, 15yds
  • 1" foam for 54"x 75" cushion
  • Pkg king-size extra loft batting
  • Upholstery thread
  • 4" needle
  • Sewing machine
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: 1/2" seam allowance
  1. Cut two 55"x 76" main fabric.
  2. Cut two 55x 3 1/4".
  3. Cut two 76"x 3 1/4" pieces for sides.
  4. Cut 1 3/4" bias strips of contrasting fabric to make 15yds.
  5. Cover cording with contrasting fabric.
  6. Stitch side pieces together at 3 1/4" seams to form rectangle.
  7. Add cording to both edges of rectangle.
  8. RST stitch one side edge to top.
  9. Leaving most of one long side open, repeat with bottom.
  10. Turn RSO.
  11. Open batting, center foam, and wrap foam with remaining batting.
  12. Slide wrapped foam into open side of cover.
  13. Slip stitch opening.
  14. Evenly mark 12 to 15 spots for tufting.
  15. Stitch through each tuft with long needle and heavy thread.
  16. Knot ends.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Put a dot of glue over each knot to secure.
  • To customize to your individual needs, take your measurements and re-figure the fabric, foam & cording amounts.
