FABRIC CUT LIST:

  • Fabric A
  • (2) 10.75"x 7.5"
  • Backing:
  • (2) 38"x 13"
  • (1) 38"x 25"
  • Fabric B
  • (16) 3"x 6.5"
  • Fabric C
  • (16) 4"x 6.5"
  • (6) 10.75"x 7.5"
  • (4) 9.75"x 6.5"
  • Fabric D
  • (16) 4"x 6.5"
  • (4) 10.75"x 7.5"
  • (2) 13"x 4" strip (for hanging loop)
  • (1) 25"x 4" strip (for hanging loop)
  1. After cutting the pieces listed above, gather the 12 total 10.75"x 7.5" pieces to create the triangles.

  2. Run a ruler on the diagonal (corner to corner) on each of these rectangles and cut along this line with a rotary cutter. REMEMBER to switch the ruler to the opposite corners on each piece as you go. This is because on each diamond you need half your pieces to be cut the opposite way. It helps to lay them out on the table or floor to have a visual as you go.

  3. Following the attached pattern, start by stitching together all of the triangular/diamond pieces with 1/4" seam allowance. Trim and square off these pieces to be 9.75"x 6.5".

  4. Using the pattern for reference, stitch together the remaining pieces with a 1/4" seam allowance to create the three separate hangings. Press.

  5. Sandwich together your backing fabric, batting and top pattern for all 3 separate hanging pieces. Safety pin together.

  6. Quilt the pieces together. Start by stitching along the outsides of the diamonds using your seams as a guide. Next stitch along both sides of the horizontal seams in your pattern (but not inside the diamonds).

  7. Trim off any extra fabric or batting along the edges of all 3 pieces. Also use this time to make sure all edges are straight and crisp with your rotary cutter and ruler.

  8. Now it’s time to hide and clean up the edges. The top edge of all 3 pieces can be left open for now. Pin back approx. 1/4" along the bottom and sides of the hangings. Sew a straight, clean line.

  9. To create the dowel rod loop at the top on all 3 pieces, grab your 4" strips. Fold these in half lengthwise to create the 2" tube. You will now sew these to the top edge of your hanging, making sure that the unfinished edge will be on the back. Remember to tuck/fold in the edges of the tube before you sew.

  10. Press your entire project so that it will hang nicely on the wall.

JOANN HACKS:

  • The pattern has many different sized pieces but if you look closely it’s really 32 rectangles in the same size. As you sew it together it’s helpful to get all of the smaller pieces and triangular pieces put together first. Then you have 32 rectangles (all 9.75"x 6.5") to stitch together.
  • Always remember to trim and square off the fabric pieces with the rotary cutter/ruler as you stitch it together. This will help immensely to keep the pattern looking crisp and straight.
